The Nerdy Dr Who Geekfest Thread

Tom Baker was easily the best Doctor. Adric was a dire assistant but at least he died spectacularly

David Tennant my fave - only 'cos I've only been around since Doctor #9! :p

And as for assistants, in order of preference; Donna > Amy > Rose > Martha. I think it's Amy's accent. I like her accent :p

Oh, and Weeping Angels are bloody brilliant!

Baker (T)
Smith
Pertwee
Ecclestone
Tennant
Troughton
Davison
Hartnell
McCoy
Baker (C)

I can't rate poor old Paul McGann as he only had one go and that was an appalling bastardised American car wreck of an attempt.

Yup - a grumpy old man. Bit of a difference to the current incarnation!

Tennant,he was simply made for the role.
Eccleston did a good job.
Smith is growing on me but he's not helped by Moffat's take on how the show should be imo.

Donna
Rose w/Eccleston
Rose w/Tennant
Martha

Moffat > RTD. I love how RTD brought the show back and brought it up to date, but he simply isn't as good as Moffat when it comes to writing science fiction.

I think the show had become a bit stale by the end of Last of the Time Lords. I didn't really enjoy the last few episodes of Tennant's era as much.

Some of the story arcs Moffat has written have been superb.

Fair enough,I agree they are very different.RTD focused on the drama, normally just jumped to a planet or a different time and stayed there for the duration of the episode.Moffat uses time travel as part of the plot, much more sci-fi about it I agree but in some stories it seemed more important than the story which I did not enjoy.

I liked most of series 4 but I see your point,it was getting stale...

The funny thing is Moffat is by far my favourite episode writer of the RTD era.

I loved series 4 too (it featured Davros - what more could you ask for?!) but the specials they did were weak. Except the Waters of Mars - that was good.

RTD's episodes often got really close to an ace idea only for it to be slightly overdone.

The Timelords - awesome - especially with Dalton as the head Timelord - criminally underused.

The Master - I adored Utopia (one of the best ever episodes) but the next couple disappointed me (the Dr being aged was really shit). And what the hell did they do to the Master during Tennant's last story?

Then Waters of Mars - they tried to make him go a bit mad - they should have run with that a bit.

Anyway, I'm just focussing on the negative here - I enjoyed far more of RTD's time in charge than otherwise.

I shall be attending the Dr Who thingy in Cardiff next Summer with the lad. He is joining a acting club next month and his ambition..........to become the Dr

Prepare him for the weeping angels. I still have the claw marks from my youngest when he entered that room and the Dr (Matt Smith) said don't blink.

the next couple disappointed me (the Dr being aged was really $#@!). And what the hell did they do to the Master during Tennant's last story?

I'm not a big fan of those (4) episodes either.

A couple of my favourite quotes are from Moffat's era:

Demons run when a good man goes to war.

A good man doesn't need rules, today is not a good day to find out why I have so many. :)

On September 1st it begins again.

I'm getting abit tired of the Daleks, they probably shouldn't even exist anymore. They are so frightening, then they bite off more than they can chew and get wiped out, every time.

interesting reading! :) Especially the view on The Beast!

Thanks for this!

Not a bad list - my personal favourite is Davros. I'd advise anyone with an interest in the show to watch Genesis of the Daleks. My favourite Dr Who story ever. It's the first time Davros appears in the show, it's got Tom Baker in it, it's got some brilliant science fiction mixed in with clever allegories. It's brilliant.

This and some more. It is the story Dr Who was invented for.

As for killing off the daleks. No.
