The Nerdy Dr Who Geekfest Thread

I'm looking forward to what she can do! I wonder if Tennant had an influence?

I've never seen her in anything before so I can't comment on the casting really.

As for the gender change - it's imperative they don't make too big an issue out of it, shoehorning in corny references etc. I have found that recently, there's been too many not-so-subtle references to Time Lords changing sex which have grated on me. It's not necessary.

If the scripts are good enough, anyone criticising the choice purely on the gender will soon be silenced.

I'm not against the show moving in a totally new direction, even though I thought the last series was really strong.

In fairness, the series has got most of the important casting absolutely bang on (possibly excepting some of the assistants). Certainly the title role - Doctors 9 through to 12 have all been excellent since the show returned. So there's no reason to suggest this decision will be anything other than positive.

Excited to see how it pans out.

Just been on twitter for the first time since the announcement. Fucking hell. Quite shocked at the vitriol TBH.

Never watched Broadchurch. That was a Chibnall show wasn't it?

It's frightening. And inevitably starting with "I'm not sexist but..."

Like any new actor, you have to give them a chance first, then decide whether you like them.

there's quite a few sci-fi books i've read where people change sex or end up in opposite sex bodies. really nothing out of the ordinary in that area of fiction.
after the next 12 incarnations as a woman i'll be very disappointed if the character doesn't become a centaur. that might make me start watching it again.

A female foe...... interesting...........Time for a Cyberwoman too ( and not ala torchwood)

'Female Doctor, I won't be watching that' says Jose Mourinho

More likely to have been Olivia Colman, if so, I'd have thought (who would have been a great choice).

With 1960s living standards, 1950s Grammar schools and 1940s inequality, Theresa May would have been the ideal choice?

Didn't know that, but they'd have just come up with a My Evil Twin scenario or similar.

Oh yeah, it wouldn't be the first time they hired an actor who had previously appeared in the show as the lead role.

Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi had both appeared in the show before they were cast as The Doctor.

Nah. The Doctor is supposed to be a goodie.
The Doctor has been involved in lots of bad things, from destroying entire civilisations to leaving children to die on the battlefield!
