The NFL Thread

Pleased the Vikings actually now have a head coach not stuck in the 80's - the 4th and goal in the first quarter was a situation where Zimmer and co wouldn't have been able to get the Field Goal unit on the field fast enough - but this time they take a risk and take a 7-0 lead. Hopefully they can continue to improve as the season goes on, they definitely have the talent - Jefferson is an absolute beast.

Actually looked like they could run the clock down a bit too rather than just go 3 and out with runs up the middle and giving the ball back whenever they’re winning

With Dak out for up to 8 weeks could be an interesting 3 way battle for the NFC East. Giants looked decent against the Titans but Eagles clearly now favourites for the division.

Unless Gannon let's the Eagles defense play aggressively rather than the repeating of his soft coverage shite from last year then just like then they'll lose to any team with a better than average QB. The only positive is there's probably only Rodgers, Cousins, Murray and Dak once who they'll see before the play offs. Would have lost yesterday if it wasn't for Goff being Goff

Justin Jefferson ripping Green Bay a new orifice. Green Bay without anything at wide receiver and missing another two players from their O-line.
I loved the way Rogers got his hands on the ball for the first time and in response to the impressive 'new' Vikings attack, 'now lads, lets not fuck about here, route one, (new boy) Watkins, beat your man for speed and fuck off down the touchline and I'm gonna throw you a bomb'.
And he did all of that and Watkins cruising at 22mph, 2 yards clear looked up, tracked the ball.... and dropped the fucking thing! Unbelievable!
The game went away from them right there and they never got it back.
Lots of work to do....

Stunning fact!!
You know like in our football the ball is actually in play for only around 56 minutes a game?. That's actual play when the ball is on the pitch, well, in the NFL, whilst the game is 'played' over exactly 60 minutes there is only 11 minutes of actual play.
11 fucking minutes!!

Apparently an NFL broadcast is the most interrupted sporting event on tv. With over 100 ad breaks and around 5-10 ads per break. The ads generate around 3.2BILLION dollars!
Then they slot in 11-18 mins of actual play into the 4 x 15 segments.....

Are you sure about that? The clock stops after plenty of plays. You have thirty seconds to get a play off I suppose if there are no flags or timeouts. And the play lasts about four seconds.

Exactly Paddy. I saw it on NBC , or it might have been on Sky showing one of the games. But I've Googled it and that came up with 15-18 minutes of actual play, so maybe they were looking at a specific game. Can you imagine paying someone 8 or 9 million dollars and Mahomes spreads his passes around choosing 5 or 6 receivers, that receiver might only get 2 targets, or receptions so yes, for his actual catching of 2 balls, he's got an awful lot of money for 10 seconds play...

I loved the way he kept getting smashed or rushed, poor Shaaron. Shame

Watkins didn’t have his hands anywhere near each other, ball went straight through! My coach always told me ‘pinky’s together’!

Denver doing their best Wolves impression by getting into the red zone 4 times and only getting 6 points out of it.

Couldn't believe it! 3 Times within 2 feet of the line and 12 attempts failing to get over it. Wow!
I think it was a bit shit to boo Wilson as he came out.
He's spent years doing his best (despite Carroll's worst efforts) to get Seattle to be something.
He deserved better. I think the crowd took their lead from Pete Carroll, and the whole thing was just tacky.

That crowd response affected Wilson from everything I've read, therefore perfectly legitimate in my book

I was pretty surprised by it, but they don't owe him anything, nor he them.

There's a certain irony in Herbert trying to tackle Watson on his pick 6 with all the gusto of a Matt Doherty leg dangle and then smashing his ribs up a few minutes later

9th year on the spin that the Colts who have been average over that period have lost to the Jags who have been shite bar 1 year in Jacksonville (1 was technically London). Remarkable record.
