The NFL Thread

Does he have a choice? Presuming he's free to play, he can sit out and lose millions, but is that likely? Worked for Trent Williams, didn't for Le'Veon Bell. I think he'll play for Houston this year, he may dial it in, but he'll play.

I think he would prefer to sit out rather than play - his relationship with the ownership is completely broken. If he "dials it in" then his value may go down.
On the other hand, the new coach and GM might have made a positive impression on him.

I bet he wishes he'd taken the offer on the table from the Bears now

Really? I'd much rather try my luck with Rhule than the Bears. Bridgewater had some okay games and PJ Walker played okay considering, Rhule is obviously someone who can scheme and prepare for a QB even with some of the issues they faced last year.

Still got the chance to add a high 1st rounder too there and potentially a slight to moderate improvement at QB.

Hopefully a chink of light is appearing at the end of the Watson tunnel. Two of the accusers have gone public and Watson is losing endorsements. His attorney has filed an emergency motion to have the names revealed of all the accusers. One theory is that this is really to force their attorney to the negotiating table.

Teams don't always do what they 'should'.

According to Mike Florio - a reputable NFL insider - if Watson can resolve his problems quickly enough, the one team most likely to try to trade for him is....

The Eagles

Yeah I saw that, however this also follows reports that Watson had revised his statement to the encounters were consensual, to then he was in tears when it was explained the women felt he had forced them. That's quite a change from his original stance they were all false allegations.

I will understand teams keeping an eye and hoping to get a low ball trade, however personally I wouldn't want the guy at the Raiders now. I appreciate that is no doubt seen as pious as their are probably tons of weird and creepy behaviour by players on all teams, but the more details that emerge of this the more it's reminding me of Winslow and how creepy his story was.

Ignoring the legal side since we last discussed this there have been a couple of changes which would make me less against the move. Firstly, it's not going to happen this side of the draft so nothing would be given up in 2021 and secondly they now have an additional 1st in 2022 so theoretically could give 3 1sts all in the same draft year rather than being compromised over multiple years.

Now that it's clear that the claims aren't totally fabricated and is an argument over consent I'd be very nervous from a character perspective about something happening in the future once his chequebook puts this behind him.

Morally I don't think the past will bother Philly, they gave Vick a job after he convinced them of his redemption, they and anyone else should be wary about the future IF it's the women who are telling the truth.

FAO Punts:
Pitts
Chase
Fields
or trade back?

Falcons have the most interesting pick of the draft and the news they are shopping Julio (which I believe, but don't think they'll match their value) adds a bit more spice.

I think they'll take Pitts which is ridiculously high for a TE, but if he can do what Kelce can and all analysts say he can then it's worth it

Pitts, for me.

I'd put down good money that he's a future HOFer.

I was looking when the draft was earlier today.

Lawrence sounds like he has a lot of hype around him. Is he as good as they say?

Yes.

He's the surest sure thing since Peyton Manning in 1998.

Well I’ve never seen any of them play but apparently Pitt’s is best player available.

I’m not keen on taking a QB just because “we might not pick at 4 again”. Ryan’s contract situation is a mess. I think you just have to play him the two years (hopefully he regains some form? Might be good for longer than 2 years...). There also no guarantees your QB you pick will actually be any good.

So if you’re not picking a QB, then you take Pitts over a WR.

There’s a lot of chat about trading back though although the market for it has diminished. Also a bit underwhelming to miss out on an elite pick. However because the salary cap situation is so bad they say if we pick a top 10 guy then we won’t have another space to sign all our picks anyway. And the roster is full of holes.

I’d probably try and trade Jones (massive chunk out of cap, not sure on figure pre and post June though), then it gives you more flexibility. Hopefully someone who is in a “win now” situation pays up.

If not then I don’t really see the choice but you’d have to trade back. Means you can actually sign the players you pick, more picks to fill gaping holes and you can actually rebuild.

Best QB to come out since Andrew Luck is the general concensus.
