The Oscillating Wildly Thread

Very kind of you to say, young man. But not true :)

Part of it is health related, as a lot of you know I have bipolar disorder, I'm really not well with it at the moment and having that at the back of my mind isn't helping me at all. I think letting it go will help me out a tiny, tiny amount. I'll take anything right now.

I'm asking for a couple of farewell pieces before it goes, got one off Andy of top 10 goals. And Olofinjana needs to get his before I pop off.

In footballing terms you might not be a literary Messi or Ronaldo but what you write is regularly Champions League quality. Think Scholes - consistently good and close to the top level and appreciated by those that understand football. Hope you change your mind as your take on Wolves is both insightful and funny.

Dan writes so much better than anything I produce!
Tectonic plates move faster that my typing and his memory for details is phenomenal. I struggle to remember last week whereas he can tell you who scored against Bristol City in 1998 ? Blokes a savant I tell ya !

You still owe me both a Sid Cowans and a David Kelly piece young man or I will haunt you :)

Sadly its only got to make sense to Dan for it to be "true"

I would encourage you to read the comments on the articles, throughout this thread, the nomination for that award and remind yourself of the numerous invites from opposition fan groups to challenge that negative thought though.

Hell, even them lot on the Mix begrudgingly accept you're bloody good at what you do. Its easy enough for your mates to "blow smoke" but you won the vast majority of them over too.

In the football blog climate there are a million stars but Oscillating Wildly is one of the ones burning brightest. Even if you don't continue be proud of what you did achieve.

Can we have a full on dean Saunders piece as a last hurrah/ bile venting piece before you go? don't even care if it's a James Joyce stream of consciousness

You are a better writer than you think (many of Fleet Streets finest aren't as good), but it does need to be what is right for you not what any of us think.

You pieces are always insightful, with a touch of humour (without going OTT or trying to force it) & with a depth of info that is unparalled .

I will be sorry not to see more, but as said it's got to feel right for you.

I suggest a full on Alex Rae fanboy piece

Oh yes a Dean special as the last one - would really like to know what you thought of him :)

Best Wolves 11 you've seen based on their best season for the club. This takes into account the level the club was at that time, so Kev Foley would be better than Semedo on his Championship winning season for example.

I'd love a piece on Steve Claridge!
Please please and once more please!

Thinking about it, if it's the last one you're gonna do Dan, I want to know about you, why you got into football, you're first game - how it felt, who you went with, when you knew you were hooked, if you've drifted away from football and then come back etc. Any really memorable occasions and not necessarily for footballing reasons but games that stick in the memory for sentimental reasons

For those who care, I think I'm probably done with this. I'm not good enough to do it properly and I don't have the motivation to do it any more. The licence on the site runs out in a couple of months, I think I'll just let it lapse and that'll be that.

There isn't any point if you don't enjoy it and you aren't any good in the first place. It'll have been nearly five years by the time it ends so that's not a bad run.

Had a go, couldn't do it, move on.
I completely understand and agree with your decision as you are clearly not feeling the love for it any more. I have been there too and the right thing is to terminate if that is how you feel.
But, and it’s a big but, I do think it is a crying shame. Stephen Fry is bipolar but it hasn’t stopped him with his writing. Many of us enjoy your writing so to add at the end of your post that you couldn’t do it is bollocks. I mean that nicely. I enjoy sparring with you, I don’t always agree and we have had several battles online. We will have more no doubt. But you can write and you can entertain. That’s only not a fact for you. OW will be missed.

I'm just one on a long list of people who'd miss your articles, DW.

I hope you can return to a point where you're comfortable writing articles because you're really rather good at it.

All the best.

Ach, you're all far too kind and I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately all those voices don't drown out the one that's in my head. At the moment I think I'll be gradually stepping away from all things Wolves and leaving it behind. Including this place, eventually. I need to find some peace because this is unbearable.

Thank you again.

Well I hope that head voice shuts up soon then! Wishing you good health and success for the future

As said - you need to do what feels the right thing for you - this place or wolves aren't that important really.

It will be a loss ,but nothing is more important than what you need to do for yourself

Sorry to hear that, DW. I genuinely think your writing is outstanding and always enjoy your OW pieces.

Look after yourself! And hope you have some good support around you if you are going through a difficult time again. Don't be afraid to reach out to people when needed.

Another one here who enjoyed your writing. Stepping away from something you have done for a while is sometimes not a bad idea, but never forget that talking to someone usually helps a lot. Isolating yourself never helps as all you hear is what is in your own head, and sometimes that is worse.
Good luck for the future..
