The R.I.P. Thread

Didn’t realise he was 97, saw him at Silverstone in 2019 and he seemed as happy and energetic as ever.

Ah crap, my favourite ever commentator of any sport, so enthusiastic whether it was National Motocross meeting or F1....was a half decent motorcycle racer in his youth too

Absolute legend. Great guy and fantastic commentator and personality.

RIP.

Gutted, but as Johnny says, 97 a life well lived, legend in his field, well loved by everyone, that’s a good legacy to have had.
Was a brummie by birth, and worked at Dunlop in the marketing department, also responsible for the “ a Mars a day, helps you work, rest and play” his autobiography is worth a read

He always reckoned the Mars one wasn't his but the Opal Fruits was...'made to make your mouth water'......yeah his autobiography is ace....might re read it

A sad day but what a life to celebrate.

Hard to imagine back in the day F1 was only a highlights package on Grandstand. I remember watching this and being completely hooked.

He still beat Sugar Ray in my mind.
no question. total stitch up.
bit like when castillo beat mayweather first time out yet lost by 4 and 5 rounds on all the scorecards. money talks.
Marv was my favourite of that great era
