The R.I.P. Thread

I could grab my vinyl Queen 2 from where I am sat here probably. Oh no I can’t, my brother nicked half my vinyl when he fucked off to Oz! He even took Jazz with the original Fat Bottomed Girls bicycle race poster insert. Git.
Result 😉

I can take or leave them tbh ( mostly leave) seven seas of rhye, hammer to fall and breakthrough are my faves,
Fat bottomed girls, bicycle race and THAT song can all get in the sea.

Fat bottomed girls is a great drop D riff. It’s late is a superb track. Plenty of good Queen tracks out there.
There's way more good than bad, the structure and musicianship on their records was sublime

John Sewell, former captain of Crystal Palace has passed away.

A very tidy player in the 60s and early 70s - saw him play a number of times . . . RIP.

RIP the five possibly ten refugees who have died in the English Channel today.

Edit - upto 20

Horrible news, but I fear they won't be the last.
Don't know how it'll be achieved but Britain and France need to get their shit together, stopping the traffickers while also helping the poor buggers who get through to the sea.

33 were on board, just two were rescued.
Patel saying the "pull" factors of migration needing addressing is a bit off at this point.

My take is, it's not the benefits or free money that brings them here,
they could have family already here,
can speak a bit of English so get to the place where you can be understood, rather than staying in say Greece or Italy,
We have/had a reputation of being a welcoming, friendly, fair country where people can come and be accepted and safe.
I worked with afghans, Bosnians, Iraqis in my past, everyone of them had stories of family being killed, a few had bullet wounds, lots had horrific stories of getting to safety

It’s absolutely not benefits. It’s not being persecuted.

But my question is why do they feel they are so much better off this side of the channel than in France that it would make them take such enormous risks.

That’s what we need to understand, both ourselves and the French government.

It's pretty much proven to be a combination of language and family. Worth noting that per head we take in less asylum seekers than any country in the EU.

Heathcare, housing, benefits is just a big right wing red herring

Yep. Some good tunes but lots of absolute shite.

What I can’t understand is why we pay so much money to France in the hope that they’ll stop them from leaving. Surely it’s in the long term interest of France that they let them leave.

I'm with Paddy in not understanding why they are prepared to risk so much, I get the language and family stuff but even so, the extreme risk in the journey, not to mention the monetary cost. I guess I just can't put myself in their position and imagine the suffering they've gone through.

That's where I am too and seems like the elephant in the room when taking about the crossings.
