Keepers are an odd bunch and will happily sit on the bench and be a Cup keeper for long periods of their careers. When you play in a position where only 1 can play I guess you have to accept that outcome rather than being unemployed


Richard Wright is my fave back up keeper. Was it zero League appearances for City over a 4 season stay

stuart taylor is always the one for me. Career almost 20 years long, never made it to 100 appearances.

Always found de Vries joining us strange. Number 1 at a promoted team only to throw that away and be our backup. Kicks up a fuss about being a Liverpool benchwarmer post-relegation leaving him as backup to Ikeme instead and spends the rest of his career (save for one season with Forest) on the bench. Weird.

Fake Jota is a very “relegation battle” signing. Seems to have gone backwards a bit. Not sure he’s a huge amount better than what they already have.

Not exactly going to have you on the edge of your seat signing unless it’s just a back up. To be fair Smith probably got the best out of him at Brentford. Being coached by Coterill must have taken its toll.

Villa have released Ross McContract a year early. One of their finest ever bits of business. £12m and stupid wages on a bloke who was nearly 30 and never ever going to be a PL player.

West Ham have continued the stupid by giving 33 year old David Martin (11 appearances for Millwall in two years, including costing them a Wembley appearance) a two year deal. I hope they have to actually play him at some point.

At least Villa had to pay dear old Ross a week of his extra £30k a week after their promotion.

If they had paid his contract off in April it would have cost them far less.
