The TWF Horse Racing Thread

Strong statement from the BHA on the matter.

Don't think i can be any more disappointed than i am this morning with this. As someone who loves racing and have seen how yards treat their horses to see that one of the best in the game has done this is quite upsetting really. It just makes you think about the whole sport in general and what does actually happen when people aren't watching.

We all know there's opposition to horse racing from animal welfare groups etc but the story racing always comes back with is well the horses are treated like kings and this goes a long way but when stuff like this comes out that argument just isn't good enough. This couldn't have come at a worse time and racing really needs to look after itself now and make sure that Elliot never has anything to do with horse racing ever again, if he does it just sends the wrong message.
Yeah I am with you on this, sums up how I feel. Had always liked Elliott the outsider taking on the establishment.

One of my clients also doubles up as a small trainer only has 15-20 horses and he does really look after them well.
But saying that he recently picked up a horse from one of the very top UK yards, (he is also involved in horse rehabilitation) which he said had been basically run into the ground and was in terrible shape.

BHA have now put out a statement saying that Gordon Elliot is not allowed to have runners over here until the result of the IHRB inquiry. No idea what the owners do now, do they wait and hope or move them quickly so they can still run at Cheltenham/Aintree and where do they move them to.

You would like to think the IHRB would have the investigation done pretty swift.

While Elliott needs to be punished, banning his horses isnt the way. That punishes the owners and connections too, it needs to be his punishment not theirs.

Which makes it really tough as the only appropriate punishment has to be a ban of some sort. Best thing i can think is someone takes over the licence of the yard right now. The BHA obviously do not want G.Elliott next to any of the horses running at Cheletenham or Aintree at the moment that's for sure.

It would be fair to ban him immediately and then his yard after The Whitbread at Sandown - don't follow racing anymore so probably isn't called that now, but that used to be the last big NH meet over here. That then means the connections aren't punished and they can sort out alternative arrangements for the length of the ban and return post it should they so wish

Yep, a ban for him needs to happen. I suppose the investigation needs to find out if this is an isolated incident, or if there are other issues with other members of the team. If its isolated and just Elliott in the wrong then I would have no issues with another member of the team taking over the license.

BHA have said the owners can obviously move trainers to run the horses at Cheltenham/Aintree, can definitely see Chieveley Park looking at this as they haven't backed him like O'Leary has

Horse in the picture seems to have belonged to O'Leary which makes his stance more surprising.

Morgan was the horse, was a Gigginstown horse.

Chieveley Park moving all their horses from Eliiott to Henry de Bromhead

De Bromhead will be main benificiary. Another owner the Morans who have all their horses (about 20) with Elliott also rumoured to be pulling out.

There's a video about on twitter now which is even worse than Elliott and it's apparently Rob James involved who won on Milan Native in the Kim Muir for GE last year. It's been a bad few days for racing, i know you get cunts everywhere but i don't think i'll ever understand it.

At Colin Bowe's yard. Just deplorable. He's riding in a bumper today...

Supposedly more to come today.

I have a couple of antepost bets involving Elliot horses, so hopefully they get this all sorted before Cheltenham. Probably a good job fans won't be there to boo him every time he wins too.

They're being split between Mullins and de Bromhead. Envoi Allen has gone to Henry, Sir Gerhard gone to Willie.

Edit - Cheveley Park had 4 Chelt entries with Elliott. 3 (Envoi Allen, Quilixios and Ballyadam) going to Henry, and as said Sir Gerhard going to Mullins. Overall 8 horses moved, 4 gone to each.

I've taken the 33s available at Ladbrokes about Spiritofthegames for the Pertemps. He's 20's elsewhere.

He's not one I expect to win and there is a niggle about him over 3m, but he has plenty of good course form and has 7/8lb in hand on his chase mark where he has regularly hit the frame in big handicaps. Not convinced this is a particularly strong renewal of the race and Skelton can certainly ready one.

Houx Gris has been subject to an absolute smash-up job today too for the Boodles. If Happygolucky and him can land that would be a nice coup.

Misses Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown and will then be back for the start of the new season. No surprises really.

Hopefully a line is drawn is under the issue now. He has his ban, fine, and probably more importantly has lost some horses from his yard. Time to move on and hopefully, for the sake of his staff, he can come back next season.
