The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

Finally got round to starting my Dresden game.

First transfer target - Carsten Jancker.

The more I play this game the more annoying it becomes.

The penalties are absolutely ridiculous, Rosberg dives up my inside, I give him plenty of space but he runs into me losing his fron wing and I get a drive through. Get real Codies.

I had reasonably high expectations for this game and at the moment it's not reaching anything near what I expected.

There's a patch coming out, as announced on the official forum. No idea what they will fix, the weird penalties and AI lap times that make no logistical sense seem to be the big issues.

In happier gamer news I have finally got round to trying Kenny's copy of Red Dead that is now permanently resident in my XBox. Superb, and I am frolicking around Mexico killing EVERYTHING

I now declare F1 2010 utterly mental.

1st season in career mode with Lotus, after a sticky start (although I would have got points in the 3rd race if the gimps hadn't had messed up my pitstop) I had a storming season, 3 times finishing 2nd, once in 3rd ( a disaster on the final lap in the rain robbed me of 1st) and a fantastic win at Monza, where I dominated in practice, qualifying and winning from Pole. A few further point finishes meant I had a total finish of 130 points. I beat Trulli in every aspect required and then come the end of the season Lotus drop me and I have a choice of Virgin or HR!!! I opted for Virgin and 3 races in I have finished 3rd, 4th & 5th.

Nearly finished Red Dead now - completed the missions involving the other members of the gang and just doing the domestic stuff before the big finale. I have loved every aspect of the game. Totally brilliant. By comparison I put Tomb Raider on yesterday and it was a bag of shit.

How you doing on the side missions/strangers/master hunter and all that jazz

Done a few stolen horses and things like that. Shot lots of wildlife but not taken out a bear with a knife yet. The bear in the snow on the way to Dutch's camp for the first time scared the shit out of me!

Oh - and I won three grand on one hand of poker in Mexico. I had full house Kings over 9s and beat a full house of 9s over 7s

Bloomin' hell Kenny, you're either the Stig, or playing on the fisher price level. I've struggled badly up until Turkey in the Lotus on hard, with medium traction control as the only aid. My best qualifying was 14th. Then afte some R & D, took pole in the rain. Finished last due to a bug that meant the cars in front of me didnt pit. Onto Canada, I again took pole. And finished 3rd. Christ knows where this huge jump in performance came from, my previous best finish was 14th.

Holding fire on starting an F1 career until all the bugs are sorted out, good game but they really shouldn't have released it with the bugs that are in it.

Don't they playtest these things?

My lad has informed me that he wants an X-box for Christmas this year and seeing as my knowledge of the gaming world ended with Atari, i was wondering if one of you good fellows on here could give me a heads up on which console would be best for him. I've had a quick look at the prices of X- boxes and noticed that there are different types of consoles, so which would be best suited to a 7 year old lad?

Tell the little infidel he wants a playstation. I mean could you really live with yourself if you ruined his life by buying him an xbox?

The latest version of the Xbox is excellent. I guess at 7 years old he won't be playing online so the online side of things is pretty redundant unless you would dabble yourself, in which case Xbox online is better I think. The advantage of the PS3 is that it has Blu-ray, if you're into that sort of thing, and if you have a 3D tv it can also show 3d films, I believe. I would say in terms of games, the Xbox has a larger back catalogue of games and will have considerably more that are suitable for a 7 year old, though there aren't a huge number of games I don't think for this age group- most games nowadays are definitely targeted at an adult games player. It comes down to how your console would be used- if it's just for your kid to play on offline, I'd go for an Xbox, but not necessarily the latest model- unless of course you are likely to invest in 'Kinect', the motion sensor system for the Xbox which comes out in November and will almost certainly have a good number of family fun type games bundled with it.

All of that probably hasn't helped much, has it?!

TBH I actually think the Xbox is better however I bought the PS3 because I had the PS2.
