Things that make you SAD thread.

I'd actually like to have an eye disorder that glasses could correct (instead of the one I have that can't)

Surfice to say that after 34 years of wearing them the novelty has worn off. I have found myself seriously considering laser surgery the past couple of years.

Neighbour had it done, but apparently had the eyesight of a mole prior, hails it as the greatest decision he's ever made, went private though a he couldn't envisage waiting till the next millennia to get it done on the NHS

Yep I'm on mole levels of sight, always have been just took 7 years for anyone to listen to me. I wouldn't be able to have it done on NHS and not sure I would want to, its a cosmetic operation and I feel the NHS budget is best spent elsewhere.

Admirable stance but do you think that if you had it done some life saving procedure elsewhere wouldn't happen ?

I didn't think of it in such altruistic terms Paul, more that it's a very much unnecessary operation other than purely cosmetic, and if I wanted it then I should fund it.

I have enough to thank the NHS for over the years and having had a small glimpse of what it has to deal with on a daily basis then I would be a fool to think the slight inconvenience of me having to wear glasses was anything other than a personal vanity issue.

Had two colleagues done the laser, maybe five years ago so maybe things gotten better but one had the cornea loose in one eye and the other had to wear sunglasses a very long time due to sensitivity to light..even indoors

I've been wearing glasses for 55 years. What's to be sad about?
60 yrs for me - got used to them, though do have titanium framed glasses with lighweight lenses now which weigh all of 14 grams so don't really know I'm wearing them (were expensive, but worth it).

Have cataracts coming so short term vision is improving so don't bother with them unless I'm outside, driving or watching TV. Will be a problem in a few years time, but will have to deal with that when it happens.

Glasses are not anything to be sad over - at least I can see. Certainly wouldn't look at laser as there is a % where it goes wrong & it's not an issue to have them.

The DWP.

My other half has crippling anxiety, its a daily struggle for her to complete tasks most of us take for granted. She battles like fuck and is the strongest person I know.

She finally applied for PIP after I got ill with 'burnout' from working and caring for her, I warned her beforehand how snide the assessment is, that they'd use her words and body language against her.

They sure did, we've just had the decision letter, 0 points for every aspect of the daily living and mobility aspect(s). Essentially denying she has any semblance of an illness. They have outright said she can do the things she told the assessor she couldn't.

I know we can go for a mandatory reconsideration but the question is if its in her best interests to go through that again.

Utter, utter cunts. I despise this country.

over 50% of mandatory reconsiderations are successful.
should she do it? yes, certainly. the issue is how the 2 of you are able to manage the implications of the MR on her, as it is a stressful experience.
Request transcripts of the assessors interview, and also it is really worth trying to get a CAB, law centre or similar welfare rights support organisation on board to help. If they have caseworkers, then maybe there will be a specialist who can help?

Looks like a pretty serious incident unfolding in Plymouth

Weird that the Beeb are very vague on details, just saying that it is not considered a terrorist incident, but not mentioning that a shooter was involved?

Proper weird, all those people dead including his mom because he couldn't get a bit. The world's gone flipping crazy

She must have seriously cramped his style if she stopped him ever getting his end away. Its obvious he had issues bigger than being a virgin, still at least nobody ever found out about it.

Just watching News at 10, I know good news is no news but fuck me it seems particularly grim home and abroad atm, Plymouth, Afghanistan, Haiti, plus all the usual.

So many big domestic news stories (not good obvs) just ignored though.
