Without going into the ins/outs, rights/wrongs of this specific case, the fact that it took four years for what appears to be a simple legal case to be resolved is also saddening.

Abortion in Texas is now illegal if you are more than 6 weeks pregnant. At six weeks most women don't even know they are pregnant.
The US Supreme Court ignored 50 years of precedent in allowing the Texas law to stand. Other states will enact new laws and abortion could soon be completely illegal in half the country.

I'm not in favor of anything Texas does about guns but this is overstating things. Still has to be a handgun, still has to be holstered.

Though I agree that the law is an embarrassment. As are the other 18 states that allow "Constitutional Carry" of firearms.

But you can get a license to carry an AR-15 and openly carry it? I'm sure i saw people doing so in the protests a couple of years ago?
I get nervous when I see armed police here carrying guns in airports and train stations or wherever, and they are fully trained professionals.

The law DWF is rightfully pissed off about is referring to unlicensed open carry.

The amount of firepower a civilian with the right licenses can legally carry in this country is stunningly stupid even by American standards.

Reading the details of the Sarah Everard case (and bear in mind they won't publicise the worst bits). Just horrible.

I would never support the death penalty for numerous reasons but I can kind of understand why people do when it comes to a piece of work like this.

I understand the legal, logical and ethical arguments against the death penalty, but we are emotive beings. The continuation of a life when they have shown such scant scarcity for it in the first place seems a perverse one. It is certainly one that leaves a question mark over justice.

On a parallel line of thought it's hard not to think that the worst sex offenders should be chemically castrated either.

We are emotive animals after all. I don't wish to spark a discussion on ethics as there is duality in my beliefs on this.

The short answer is yes, it's horrific, truly horrific.

I don't think the death penalty would stop these kinds of things happening, but it doesn't seem right that the offender gets to continue their life whilst depriving someone else theirs.

We need to drop the notion of one bad apple though, the police are filled with criminals and institutionalised immunity for that criminality, 52% of officers found guilty of sexual misconduct have kept their jobs in the last 5 years alone.

One bad apple gives the police a pass to not scrutinise recruitment, cultures, attitudes and policies and procedures. Instead lets look at what one bad apple does to the rest of the barrel.

Not disputing what you are saying matey but 52% of how many and there are many levels of misconduct, other than that "the police are filled with criminals", based on what you think or you have quantitative evidence ?

He's been given a whole life term, personally think that's probably worse than the death penalty for him. Spending 50 plus years as an ex police officer in jail with no hope of release will be absolutely terrible, good. The cost of keeping the cunt alive and locked up for all those years is a downside of course.

From a purely pragmatic perspective, what's the difference? It seems like society would be better off without having to incur those costs?

i think i heard the same interview lincs heard. the stat applied to the met police. some of the crimes were against fellow officers, but equally some of the crimes were against vulnerable women who the police were supposed to be supporting. the worrying thing about those cases, is that it's an abuse of power given their role.

given this, and the responsibility they have, it is worrying.
