Things that make you SAD thread.

Seems so much bad and depressing news lately, and not enough cheerful or good news. 😢

Genuinely upsetting to see how the war is impacting our staff, not just our Russian team, but also seeing the impact on our Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Romanian teams.
I can't go into details but some of the stuff our agents are hearing from advertisers on the ground, and from relatives, is heartbreaking.

likewise. I have students in cities being actively targeted. It's horrendous. and yet the human spirit some of them display is awesome.
I am having online meetings start with a number of them soon. wonder how that will go.

today would have been my best mates 60th. We lost him last january, and to be honest I still don't know the exact details.
That said, it doesn't matter, knowing won't make it hurt less. I still miss him a lot, and am desperately sad that we weren't able to reconnect after covid (he was shielded, was very high risk).
He taught me a lot, challenged me, helped me, and was a genuinely good guy.
I will forever remain thankful for the light he brought into my life.

New shoplifter at work the last few weekdays.

A juvenile, in school uniform, who has picked up sandwiches hidden behind a pillar and demolished them.

I think its pure desperation because the one day he grabbed a second which he ate before leaving too. Don't know whether he's unable to eat at home, having his lunch money nicked or what but the CCTV is heartbreaking.

We don't want to catch him to hammer him, we want to help but I'm fearful if we try and speak to him and find out what's going on he'd bolt thinking he's in trouble.

Tricky one that, I know all theft is wrong but personally, someone stealing food and eating it, is just about as minor a wrong as you can get, is it even wrong if the kids got nothing to eat?
I know every circumstance is very different but it seems crazy that someone feels they need to steal food, as much as I detest govts acceptance/need of them, there are a few options for even the most unfortunate such as food banks etc.
In Newport we have a thing called Food Share and Save, anyone, whatever they're circumstances can get a big bag of food for 2 quid.
Hope you're able to help the kid out.

Reminds me of a situ in a previous job working for a housing assoc. Was called to a case where an elderly resident was caught trying to steal a sausage roll from a shop. He'd lost his income & was stealing to eat. Thankfully the police called us instead of charging him & we were able to get him all sorts of help.

One of Mrs D's brothers was rushed into hospital yesterday morning. Sandra had to go round with a key to get in and he was unconscious in bed and unresponsive. He was taken by ambulance to James Cook Hospital.

They managed to wake him and worked out that in a confused state he had taken his medication twice and so overdosed. She spoke to him last night and he was hoping to be released this morning.

At about 6 this morning he had a massive heart attack but they managed to get his heart going again and phoned Sandra as she is listed as his NoK.

By the time she got to the hospital she was told that he was "alive" but the machine and medicines were keeping him so. She then had to make the awful decision to switch off the machine and he died a few minutes later with her by his side.

She is distraught, having to be the one to make that choice and then had to inform the other brothers and sisters. 😢

Courageous lady.

Bloody hell that's terrible. So sorry for your wife mate.

Was it the OD that caused the heart attack?

There has to be a postmortem to identify the cause. We've been told it will be carried out on Saturday.

He had a lot of issues though, Crohn's, diabetes and had just had stents put in a week or so ago.

Please pass on my condolences to your good lady

Awful. Really feel for your wife in that situation. Heartbreaking.
Make sure to take extra special care of her.

BBC item on it being 20 years Since bend it like beckham being released. We’ve regressed as a society since :(

We have had dogs ever since I moved here in 2005. Tomorrow will be the final day for our last one. Seventeen years old, she is unable to stand up by herself and her cancer has returned. I was up half last night with her and when she did manage to walk she seemed totally lost. Mrs Gomez-Wrong Foot always struggles with these occasions whereas I am usually okay. This one is already more difficult and I am glad I do not have to work tomorrow.

It's always hard, you just have to hold onto the fact you've given them 17 years good life and vice versa

I had a contact from a management colleague at work. I heard a member of their team had died.
I had to respond to that query, and in doing so asked if the colleague who had passed was known to me (if it was ok to share the information).
Turns out that it was a friend, who had been a great and support person, and colleague. I met him before I started working here, and he always was happy to share knowledge, information and advice. He was always smiling. His advice was always sage. He doted on his daughters, and I cannot fathom how they are coping.
When I got a job here I reached out to him, and as always, he was welcoming and helpful.
I didn't know he was ill - no reason why i should (fucking cancer!) It's really upset me to learn of his passing though. I am typing this through blurry eyes, and have had a bit of a cry a few times this morning.

We sometimes don't know or realise how important we can be to each other, or how much we might miss each other.

Rest in peace Andy. I will miss you, and I hope that I live in a way that shows what a wonderful person you are, and am able to keep your memory alive by living by your example.

Had a text yesterday stating my niece passed away in wolverhampton.
She was only 42
Seems I don't get to holiday back home anymore. Just travel for funerals :(
I know the season is over but would love to hook up for a pint and chat perhaps a curry somewhere. Just to hear a friendly voice would be nice
