deleted my comments, I'm not going to argue over pages and pages of the thread and bore everyone with it

Fair play for recognising it could have been controversial!

Bloody hell Aldi that was quick !!

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your recent application. Unfortunately on this occasion you have not been successful.

Due to the high volume of applications that we receive, we are unable to provide specific feedback to individual candidates.

We would welcome applications from you in the future, however please note that for the next 6 months we can only accept applications for a different role with a similar or lower level of responsibility.

Stick at it mate, it all seems doom and gloom atm but if you carry on as you are, you will succeed. I had almost 3 years (1980-83) out of work and it almost finished me off, luckily I had the support of my missus and some great friends which got me through it. Just have to try and stay positive and keep going, somewhere out there is a job with your name on it.
I've had a couple more redundancies and trouble finding work since but always managed to find something in the end. There's no doubt job searching when you're in your 50's is harder but your experience and work ethic will be attractive to some employers.

Unconscious bias touches all of us - I was walking with my wife today in the Yorkshire Dales - there was a set of sharp bends with a bit of new drystone wall, and a flower memorial - the first thought that popped into my head was it was probably a motorbike or BMW going too fast, or possibly due to a cyclist - never thought it could be another walker who might have not been paying enough attention to the road they were walking along. We easily think that problems are due to people not like us.

Good Luck with your search Paul.

When I was in the same situation I always applied for at least 3 positions a day and I altered my CV to suit each of the posts available.

I know its naughty but if they wanted a skill I didn't have, I added to my CV a years experience at a company with that skill and then noted that the company had gone into liquidation so they could not check.

I'm sure you will find something soon, and when you do, I will raise a glass or two of wine to your success!

The wife has had her phone stolen whilst in lidl earlier today. Absolute bastards, she's had a shit year with the whole covid/Virgin Atlantic situation (plus she lost her gran just before lock down).

Ah, fucking hell.

Can you not track it via Google?
Turned off within 10 mins (it had made it to the Tesco carpark over the road).

All blacklisted/blocked and a police report filed.

Just fucking annoying tbh, there's some scum kicking about.

Tell me about it mate. I'm only just back to full fitness.
Glad to hear that :)

At least this was just an opportunist theft of a phone rather than anyone being hurt. This is more frustrating than anything else.

Put our house on the market yesterday.

I'm putting this in this thread rather than the Happy thread because I foresee a lot of swearing and ranting over the coming months as we go through the enviable task of moving house.

But I look forward to the day that I post house moving stuff in the Happy thread.... It only takes about a month/6 weeks in total to move, right?

This house malarkey is a bit stressful, isn't it?

So:

1. Viewed a property - loved it
2. Made an offer on said property
3. Our house listing went live
4. 5 viewings booked in
5. First person to see it has offered 5k under what we need, so I declined and have renegotiated for the extra 5k that we need
6. Dream house has 1 other offer on it - both will be accepted but it's the first to get an offer accepted on their property which will be accepted - RACE!

All of the above has happened since 6pm last night....

Yes it will - heart attacks tend to end stress fairly abruptly.

I do wonder if the ‘race’ part is sometimes an artificial invention of the estate agents to get people to rush into purchases.
