Denise Coates must have a fucking monster of a pad. It’s round here somewhere but can’t remember which village.

Tell a lie. It’s up near Sandbach so my old stamping ground rather than the current one!

But campaign group the High Pay Centre said it was "appallingly inefficient for single individuals to hoard wealth in this way".

I'd say it's totally efficient, in fact the epitome of efficiency ??

I do wonder how you get to that stage when you decide what to pay yourself.

Like, how much difference does it really make if you pay yourself £100m or £420m?

Well you pay £100m and you have £320m more dividend cover. With Coates owning 50% that is an extra £160m of dividend to pay out. And pay as dividends is more tax efficient as Phillip Green and his Mrs have displayed for years.

Get yourself a nice super yacht with that, somewhere to spend the summer and plan what to spend next year's windfall on.

She is worth something like 12 billion US so that would take quite some effort to burn through. Less than Bezos paid as a divorce payment to his wife though. Quite a lot less. Think McKenzie Bezos is worth about $55bn.

Abramovic owns one of the biggest super yachts this side of that lot in charge of Man City. I believe it cost around £300m.

Going rate for super yacht builds is about £1 million a metre! And I think it's around a million quid to fully fuel them, that £100 million dream lottery win doesn't look that impressive any more does it?

Her actual pay was £420m and I believe it's decided by the board and not Denise herself.

Abramovic also has a cunning tax wheeze too. You list the yacht available for charter and it is much much more tax efficient. Of course you then never charter it out. Usmanov does exactly the same with his yacht, which is about the size of Rutland.

The point was more that the stupid tax seems an incredibly successful way of making money.

The comparison with FTSE 100 CEO pay is nonsense. Their executive pay packets are decided by a remuneration committee and then voted on by shareholders at the AGM. Coates has pretty much absolute power so the bet365 remuneration committee will pay her what she demands. There is no shareholder vote, although even if there was she controls that vote.

Fair play to her for paying herself a wage and therefore tax. Great. But perhaps don’t profit from others ruining their lives in the first place.
