To Hwang or not to Hwang? That is the question

Should we sign Hwang in Jan

I just don't think he offers much in general play at all bar running in behind. Generally gives it away when it's into feet and rarely creates anything for others. Fits in quite well with the rest of them tbf

A lot of people, myself included said this about a young player we let go for nowt, he's worth a fair bit now he's developed. Also saw people say similar about a certain Diogo Jota.
Jota was brilliant when he was on loan?

I'm not saying he's Messi or anything but I'm not sure I understand what people mean when they say Hwang has "poor technique". Could someone enlighten me there? Must be something I don't even know to look for.

He's OK when he's running on to the ball, but his first touch when he's on the half turn or has his back to goal is terrible, it's incredibly loose. The weight on his passing, especially the little one touch 'round the corner' type touches is often really heavy. He's pretty direct and quite agile with a chop or direction change but I think he's generally pretty rough on the ball and probably not even worth a quarter of the quoted fee

You think he's a sub £5m player?

I do. He's had two half decent seasons in Austria, and doesn't look very good at football.

Seems a bit of a fairytale valuation to me, he's got a ropey first touch at times and to me I struggle to see what his real strengths are outside of workrate but it's not as if he's a complete joke of a footballer. You're not getting much at Championship level for that sort of money, haven't done for years, and I think he's better than that, even if he's a bit of a non-entity.

I guess that's kind of my point - he'd be a bag of meh in the championship

We don’t need to rush but I quite like him. He has shown that he has pace and can finish. Him and Neto as inside forwards behind Raul would be something I would like to see. I prefer him to Trincao in all honesty as he looks lightweight. His work rate and movement is better than Traore most of the time. He has not been helped by Raul being pants in December

Most forwards work harder than Traore and aren’t as lightweight as Trincao, so that means very little.

I’m not even sure I’ve seen enough to say “he can finish”.

Two tap ins with huge slices of luck (one of which he had about 3 goes at from a yard! Can’t remember at which point it crossed the line) and two finishes where he’s hit the target but I’d expect the keeper to save the first one for sure. So let’s be fair and say he’s had one good finish.

Not enough of a sample size for me and the data in that sample isn’t great.

The disallowed goal Vs Everton was a good finish.

I think I'd rather go for someone like brereton Diaz for an extra £5m or so

I accept I know very little about the FFP issue, but a week or so ago, a chart was shown of the entire PL with every team able to spend various amounts of money apart from Everton, who were in negative territory. So how come they are about to make 2 signings for a combined £27 million ?

They are getting it back by selling Digne
