Trump

They're fed up with the establishment, his competition is piss poor and they're too stupid to know how badly he's playing them.

There really not helping to disprove their stereotype, are they?

Because he's going to make America great again and that makes people go whoop and scream "get in the hole".

If you're looking for more depth to this then you're going to be disappointed. A small proportion of Americans have proven themselves to be just as racist and stupid as we expected them to be before this shitfest. That's Trump's base.

Bernie gives me hope.

It's also partly because the Republicans have run themselves into the ground over the last decade. Dubya was a disaster zone which realistically wrecked their prospects for a while, the best they could manage to put up in the last two elections was doddery old John McCain (with Palin as running mate!) and Mitt Romney. Much of their moderate base is drowned out by Tea Party nonsense. They've done very little in the last eight years other than fight amongst themselves and actively torpedo anything Obama tries to do.

This time around, Jeb is tainted by the family name, Cruz is a lunatic and Rubio is a total rookie. Christie would have been good but he's far too liberal to ever get the endorsement of the party. It's a vacuum and Trump has stepped in. Doesn't matter that he has no answers.

I'm not sure it's the family name that's tainted poor Jeb. If he'd have ran against Romney in 2012 he'd have won the Republican primary on the back of name recognition and money alone. He's just such a pansy. Trump walked all over him in every debate and any attempt by Bush's team to make him seem more manly just came across as completely cringeworthy.

Christie was doomed from the start. Again, if he'd have run in 2012 he'd have had a chance but no way he was getting anywhere near after that nonsense with the bridge.

I hope they nominate Ben Carson personally. He's hilarious.

Am I right in thinking that the current round of primaries are for party members only but in later rounds anyone, regardless of political inclination, can vote? If the last bit is true I wonder how many Deomcrats will saunter to the ballot box and vote for Trump to further enhance his candidacy but with an eye of him being destroyed as/when/if given the nod. The freak still scares me though, and my barking spider would be going nineteen to the dozen if he made it as far as being a choice of two.

I've spoken to a few Trump supporters and whilst they're perfectly sane people most of the time, they just don't grasp the concept of "share". They make the scary end of UKIP sound like a sane and sensible political position - for example they're terrified of getting something like the NHS, because it would mean that they "pay for someone else". The concept that right now they're paying massive amounts of health insurance costs instead so it would be pretty much cost-neutral for them as well as covering those who can't afford just doesn't compute. They complain massively that the state doesn't support armed forces veterans enough, but nobody is willing to pay the tiny amount extra it would actually cost to do so, but they're quite happy spending a fortune bombing random places they've never heard of.

Sometimes we forget just how strange and foreign the USA actually is, mainly because they try to speak English and we get their TV and movies so it means things are familiar. In many ways, they are far more different from us than your average French or German citizen. That's not to say they are necessarily wrong, just different.

I fear for World peace if you have Trump and Boris Johnson operating opposite Vladimir Putin.

Did you see Trumps comments about the protester yesterday?

“The guards are very gentle with him. He’s walking out, like, big high-fives, smiling, laughing,” Trump continued, before saying to loud cheers: “I’d like to punch him in the face, I tell ya.”

“Maybe he should have been roughed up, because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing,”

“Look, see, he’s smiling. See, he’s having a good time,” Trump said of the protester. “You know what I hate? There’s a guy, totally disruptive, throwing punches, we’re not allowed to punch back anymore. I love the old days. You know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? They’d be carried out on a stretcher, folks.”

Nah I think you will be safe enough, Boris will just roll over to have his belly tickled by Vlad, as for Trump even if the slightly remote chance he gets in, somehow I doubt the secret service will be quiet as "diligent" in their presidential protection.

All seriousness the republicans will just want to get rid of as many of their candidates as quickly as possible, as whoever will be last man standing will beat Trump in a 1v1 contest, as the republican establishment vote will unite "in anyone but Trump." Problem are they might run out of time if he is that far ahead and ifs it Cruz left as DW said he isnt much better.

He must be mellowing quite mild after his comments about Mexicans, Muslims and making fun of the disabled

The 'establishment' have already chosen. They're throwing their weight behind Rubio and it's not getting him very far. Cruz terrifies them just as much as Trump. He's a maniac.

as in "the missiles are flying, hallelujah" kind of maniac? or is that more trump?

He will get absolutely annihilated by Clinton in the actual election. Trump is just another step along the path toward the Republican Party making itself utterly unelectable. See Palin, Sarah.

Not so sure about that but i hope youre correct paddy.
