We seem to have a lot of posters commenting on some threads about UKIP saying things like they are 'harmless' and are 'nothing to worry about even if they gain some seats'.

To me, they are the most despicable party in politics at the moment (because people think they are so harmless) and I wonder if this country may be sleepwalking into disaster.

I think people need to be aware....

They are the respectable middle aged, middle class face of the BNP. Horrible, nasty bunch of bigots.

I wouldn't say they're "harmless", they clearly play on fear and like to encourage division in society, neither of which are a good thing or particularly helpful.

I would say that their long term political impact will be negligible.

Don't know if it's true , but i was told today that Farage is in Arhens.
If so he is clearly here to form alliances with the greek (nazi) party, 'crisi avgi' (golden dawn) who/s videos of 8 and 9 year old recruits performing the nazi salute were aired on Greek TV last night.

They are all racist Nazi's, whatever KTEC likes to pretend, as the newspaper quotes above clearly prove.

It's 2013 not 1913 or is it a pre requisite of nazi racists that they can't read a calendar or think for themselves.

The UKIP manifesto is hilarious.

I think most people on here know that my political stance is right of centre. I am a Conservative though, and I really can't relate to huge swathes of the stuff UKIP go on about. They are a pretty vile party. Their most damaging night was when one of their high-ups was on Mock the Week and spectacularly revealed himself to be a sexist, racist bigot.

I may fall the Conservative side of the political discussion but there is nothing in the BNP or UKIP I can approve of, frankly.

Its quite easy to pull random quotes and tar an entire bunch of people as all being the same. Here's a few from labour, however, it would be childish to claim labour is entirely made up of, as Toon would put it "A horrible, nasty bunch of bigots."

My view is that UKIP is a single issue party. Their manifesto doesn't really matter as they're never going to get into power, in the same way as the green party's manifesto, and the socialist party's manifesto also don't matter.

What will be interesting is if they poll more votes in the upcoming euro elections than any of the mainstream parties.

Surely if they poll more votes than others in the Euro elections they will get more seats and therefore wield more power and influence so their manifesto does matter.

The likes of the BNP and UKIP have only gained support and won elections because of the state of the three mainstream parties. A lot of people are totally fed up with the state of affairs in Westminster, and issues like the expenses scandal turned more people away from goings on in Westminster. It has happened before that fringe parties have prospered on the back of apathy amongst voters.

I can see why lib dems, greens etc might pick up votes because of apathy, but I can't understand how apathy could make you a racist?

Apathy doesn't make you a racist, but playing to an illiterate dumb electorate gets you votes.
