WBA 1-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Well, this was so much better, and i thought we deserved to win. Excellent from the youngsters. I know Traore has been hammered on here tonightt but Albion shit themselves everytime he got the ball. One last word, Mike Dean is an absolute CUNT.

I think Traore is best coming off the bench when we need something different, I'd keep him for those circumstances

When Podence is playing in the middle we are basically carrying him and he’s not good enough when he has the ball to justify that. Rather just play to 8s.
Think (or hope) we will more likely play Vitinha ahead of Neves and a new CM.

My point anyway is that both of them as back up/squad members are not an issue for me. Just need more quality/competition as we are so light in those positions

What did we learn from tonight?
Otasowie allows neves to play better and showed decent skill himself.
Semedo still can’t cut out crosses.
Saiss is a car wreck at rcb.
RAN will have a lot to do for us next season.
Donk is better as a defensive dm rather than trying to go forward.

what we knew already
Silva has no strength or pace but plenty of skill and ability
Traore has no footballing brain.
Podence is frustrating.
MGW brings little.

biggest plus tonight little Vinny who could have earned his move with that display.
Roll on August

I enjoyed the game from our point of view much more. 20 attempts . Pity we can’t finish atm.

Much better than last week, although it couldn't have been worse! Vitinha had a great game and was my motm, RAN decent also. They both need buying for sure.
OO was ok. Fabio ok too. Defence looked much better, although i'm still not sold on Semedo who has no end product and shaky in defence. His whole game is based on being good between defence and attack.
Traore and Podence piss poor. Neves and Donk fairly solid.
20 shots, 10 on target. How badly to we need Raul back!
At least we didn't lose, and the youngsters look decent. 4 games left. Can't wait for it to finish.

Vitinha's back-up should be MGW who I think is showing a fair bit of what he can do at the moment. I'd be offloading Podence and keeping Traore.
Really, Traore was awful at best, we cannot hang on to somebody hoping for the day he does something good, his crossing has turned woeful and you constantly get the impression he needs to be the hero, he needs to beat six people (and that's what he has to do once he's spent five minutes deciding what to do ) Let him go, were keeping a hope, that is all, keep Podence for one more season to get back to his best, but if not then bye !

Controversial opinion time.

Connor Ronan > MGW.

Worth a look at in pre-season at least.

I'd keep Traore as an option off the bench for now, I can't see anyone offering biggish money for him

I reckon someone would you know... the bizarre thing is Nuno seems to really, really like him, which is unusual as he's kind of everything Nuno hates (as in unpredictable and erratic)

I feel so much better now than idid 5 mins beore Kick off. I think most of us were expecting a defeat, but this was better. And on a bright note....Albion are DOWN...DOWN..DOWN. Have a good night guys.

If there's a team that can profit from set pieces then he'd be ideal, shame that's not us

I hope Nuno will persevere with the young lads now. Vithina has to be a shoe-in now surely? Would like to see OO replacing Donk and Corbeanu given a chance on the right. MGW should be given regular game time now till the end of the season. C`mon Nuno give the kids competitive game time to stake a claim for next season.

  • Otasowie didn't play in a position where he could've formed any sort of partnership with, and thus have any real bearing on the performance of, Neves.
  • Phillip Lahm at his peak couldn't cut out a cross when he was over 20 yards from the winger.
  • Saiss played LCB, made one real mistake of note that was nothing to do with which side he was playing.
  • Silva used his body well a number of times in the game to hold off bigger, more seasoned defenders, he's physically far more competent now than at the start of the season

Have you posted that in a Powerpoint stylee ?? :)

The xG is interesting, WBA was higher than ours at 1.07 Vs 0.84.

I thought we played well and pressed well but is shows that although WBA created probably less chances they were better quality ones. The two main ones were Gallagher's chance and the goal.

We also have to find a way to stop opponent's crossing the ball under no pressure.

Strange however that when OO plays Neves comes further up the pitch.
Saiss took the position of RCzb for that cross, got caught under the ball, again and they get a free header 7 yards out, but feel free to defend that. He does it often enough.
We have only been pegged back three times this season when leading. Twice by these.
Better performance, glass half full. Defensively average.

ps on Fabio he is better but it was a low bar. He has a long way to go to be where we need him to be.
