Welcome Bruno Lage

You are comparing the side who are used to covering the most ground to the one who covers the least. That'd be a massive pre season job you are looking for
No. You can park the bus and counter in 442 just as much as you play 244 and press high. That team does not equal 4-3.

Burnley play 442. Don’t really have thrillers every week.

We’re going backwards if that’s anything more than the result of a massive injury crisis.
Surely a decent squad player. Not saying as a starter but if Lage does do his Benfica stuff here, then 1 of the DM's is ideal for Saiss to cover.

It's that or play him as a left back again...

I love Saiss, literally think the guy is great. But he’s not a starting premier league player, especially in CM.

As we won't sell him this summer i think the best use for him will be to support the DM positions. Assuming of course we play the Benfica way under Lage

Thought there was talking of him being in talks with Al Hilal.

Saiss has a role, in addition to his versatility there are games when even in the prem his height and physicality would be useful. Even as a sub.

This may or may not have been said (got bored of reading the transfer thread with things going round in circles) but, obviously lage isn’t a huge name, and it’s highly likely we are the only premier league club who would employ him given our connections and how we operate. I have seen lots of people saying we should be going for a bigger name, or even your gerrards (that’s daft imo), however, are we really that much of an attractive proposition currently??

potentially one on neves/traore or both going. Our main striker coming back from a huge injury with no idea on the affects I will of had. An ageing keeper on the decline. A defence in need of signing. Our brightest player from this year Neto being out for start of the season.

all that, with the talk of having to sell before we buy and our last few transfer windows, are we really that much of an enticing project?

M
Finally! A glass half-empty take on things to balance out the dewy-eyed optimism that's been doing the rounds lately 😉
My apologies - was having a discussion with my old man and haven’t checked through previous posts due to the doom and gloom of ‘lage is shit’ ‘nuno is god’ etc

personally intrigued to see how lage does, especially with the attacking football

Don't really know what new things you want someone to say about a discussion which has been going on for a month.
Ultimately we don't know how an attractive proposition we would have been because we didn't seek to find out. I doubt many realistic unemployed managers would have said no, the same for anyone managing at Championship level. I think Gerrard and Potter would have stayed where they were.

At the end of the day we knew who the new manager was going to be less than 24 hours before the old one left, so any hypothesizing was/is pointless

It’s the Fosun way. Like it or lump it

I was probably late to the party as mentioned i gave up reading. Was just a thought I had tonight but guess the conversation ship has sailed, so to speak

Call me naive, but isn't it possible that we vetted the interest in the time before the announcement Nuno left?

I'd be willing to bet that many people would have looked at it as a bad thing if we didn't have a replacement lined up. But since the guy we hired doesn't scream "guaranteed success" (which is basically impossible regardless, but I digress), we now look at that immediacy of action (work permit issues excepted) as a negative.

Hard to please sports fans, innit.

Excellent as always Sir, the only thing I slightly didn't agree with was " Something Wolves have lacked in the past 18 months is runners in behind" I saw several times players wanting to run in behind but no one was ambitious enough to make that pass, which was odd as Coady, Mout, Neves and even Saiss could ping a ball if needed, in the end I think it was futile even for the runners to attempt it, no one was going to pass to them. That was one of the few things that puzzled me last season (apart from the 10 minute build up to an attacking phase) was the reticence to have a cutting edge from players that excel at it.

Lage expected in the UK this week and the players report back on Monday for the start of pre-season (obviously a massive chunk of the first team squad will be missing because of the Euros).

Most of those missing are leaving anyway, so no biggy....
