Welcome Bruno Lage

They can still spend money without breaking the FFP agreement. We have £60m net to spend easy and still break even.

You can keep ignoring me if you want and say “but Jeff said FFP”, but it’s bollocks. We might not be able to spend more to make the allowable losses but we can certainly spend more than net £0.

It’s all easily accessible information. Just go and look at @swissramble or Kieran Maguire and fill in the blanks.
We made a £40m loss in 19/20

19/20 alone seems to put us £10m outside the parameters of the UEFA agreement.

I'm guessing 20/21 will be similar due to Covid

Or have I completely misunderstood something?

You've missed that the PL and EL payments were delayed due to the season ending late
Thanks, so we would have posted a profit of £18m.

At the very least then we could incur a moderate net spend this summer of at least £35m (now the champ stuff has fallen off and we've posted, or would have posted two years of profits - both around £18m) and not fall foul of the UEFA agreement.

Edit. As punts said, we could stick another £30m on that and still be within the parameters just about

What TT says.

Our matchday income is like £13m p/a, it’s insignificant, regardless of what the club say. I mean they could rebuild the Steve Bull which would go a long way to fixing that (and it needs doing ar some point unless they are literally going to let it rot), and that would be exempt from FFP but the income generated from it would help towards FFP. Jacqui Oatley didn’t seem to understand this in the pod I just listen to. “Any spare money would go into the first team”. Stadium upgrades aren’t going to come out that budget, we aren’t going to earn £200m surplus to pay for stadium upgrades whilst being competitive on the field.

But all evidence at the moment suggests Fosun have shut up shop

I wouldn't put my life on it, but it feels like a red herring. I wouldn't trust a word that comes out of Jeff's mouth to be honest. That's not saying Fosun out or any hyperbolic words anyone wants to put into my mouth, but the 'Honest Jeff' persona is bollocks. "Scott will lead the recruitment", if you can't believe that why should you believe anything else?

I would say Jeff more than Fosun.

Fosun have purchased us and then left it to Jeff Shi to run how he feels fit. The main guy at Fosun said last year, he is always asking Jeff if they need more cash and he says no.
All Fosun Group want is to see the team doing well and expanding a brand, like all there other major investments, so will leave Jeff Shi to do that and to date he has done that (even taking into account a dull season). He has taken probably his biggest gamble here though. He gets shit wrong with Lage, transfer dealings and our Prem status and he won't be Fosun's main guy in Wolverhampton anymore.

I guess I hope jeff is just saying stuff about FFP to make us look like we can't afford much.

Thanks to both of you for helping me "get" the FFP thing a bit more.

I’ve been calling Jeff Shi out for a long, long time. It finally seems like others are starting to come around to the same way of thinking. I just don’t trust him.

Depends on what you mean by 'trust'.

I'm pretty open-minded on this one, but what are we comparing him to? If we're talking about elite football chairmen/executives then unfortunately duplicitious, self-serving snakes run through that particular field like a stick of rock.

I don't really trust anyone in that kind of position tbh, the important question is 'do I trust him to do what's best for Wolves'?

He will do what is FINANCIALLY best for Wolves and Fosun. He is employed by owners whose business is to make money for their investors. He will follow their brief and guide. We fans can only hope that produces a team that can challenge the top half of the premier league. By his actions so far this close season, he was not convinced that was happening and has acted to change it. That said I do not expect marquee signings this summer and I do expect several to leave. If that creates a better balanced squad and more quality in depth then fine. If we sit bottom at Xmas then there will be howls of the wrong kind.

If we sit bottom come the end of September that will start. There is a tiny tiny grace period for Fosun Wolves Mk3

I agree. Jeff is part of a very successful global company, he is not a fool. He watches every game and he doe's look at social media, and some people were questioning Nuno's tactics and style of playing, and I doubt he was happy the same as lots of us were.
I don't understand the distrust of him.

Fairly simple for me. There is football and the business of football. I have relative faith in him for the latter, none in the former. 75% of people on here know more about football than Jeff Shi and nobody officially within the club who does seems to have any autonomy.

I don't think the brief for Wolves is to make money, there are easier and less time intensive methods for a company like them to make money, than a team in an expensive sport in an expensive league. I think their brief is not to waste money partly, but also the whole brand, exposure, creating an entity.

I prefer the bantz of the original lineup, but appreciate the more measured serious opinions on ones like this one.

Do they still do 'On the Contient' or whatever it was called? I used to really like that, get that episode was similar to that so probably why I enjoyed it, need to start listening again.

Strange piece really, because if it's accurate then what did Nuno have too much control of? If whatever it was Lage now doesn't have it, then who does?

I have a horrible feeling Lage is going to be expected to bring through kids who as Johnny says aren't there
