Welcome Fabio Silva

Welcome Fabio - this is so incredibly exciting. 6th time Fosun have broken the transfer record here. And seems like we've really got moving in terms of signings.

And amazing what a signing will do for the mood of a club - suddenly everything seems moving in the right direction again!

Is this our record signing timeline?

Fabio Silva
Raul Jimenez
Adama Traore
Ruben Neves
Helder Costa
Ivan Cavaleiro
Steven Fletcher
Kevin Doyle
Ade Akinbiyi
Dean Richards
Andy Gray

The difference in value from Fletcher onwards is mad, isn’t it?

Inflation plays a bit of a part (and we got a reet bargain with Fletch IMO) but yeah.

We have two forwards now who cost £30m+ apiece!

In that case, what can you tell me about Fernando Marçal?
He just played in a Champions League semi-final so he must be alright. Maybe he'll take Saiss' spot in the team.

Kind of a Silvio type, decent on the ball, doesn't excel at anything. He's also the wrong side of thirty so I'd be surprised if we're interested. Although given the length of Jonny's injury, maybe I shouldn't be.

It's certainly more exciting than Nelson Oliveira!

Could hardly be less, innit? :icon_razz:

Great signing, imho. He has shown a lot of potential to achieve great stuff. However, I do think the price is a bit steep, considering he hasn't even played a lot on the Porto's first team and the manager didn't really seem to like him much. But that's also Uncle Jorge's business. He gives, he takes.

It is a lot of money for an 18 year old but personally I' d rather take a punt on a rising star than spaff 20 million on a has been.
Maybe Esteves will come cheap as part of the deal as with Neto/Jordao?

My issue is not with his age, but the fact he barely has first team time in Portuguese premier league. As some of those who have watched it, especially Rob who went to the stadium with me, can attest, it is an atrocious league.

So it's 40M for guy who barely broke first team, that's what is surprising. For example, Ruben played a lot on the first team, even had champions appearances iirc, and he cost 15M.

Nonetheless, the talent is there, so Nuno can definitely take it out of him, probably.

Fair to say he probably would've had a lot more game time if he wasn't coached by Conceição? Seems very hesitant to give youth players a chance.

.

Wasn't there a bit of need to get this over the line from Porto on that one and the fee was massively reduced or else UEFA and their FFP was looming over them and a potential removal from the CL?

The fee doesn't concern me, the club obviously feel his potential will see him worth the money in terms of contribution to Wolves and when the time comes for him to move on they will make a hefty profit on him (or Jorge will get some other club to pay what we paid...)

Nice, measured viewpoint. It is an exciting signing, but it may only be for the bench for a while.

I would have thought everyone would expect him to be on the bench, plus maybe start cup games. Its a perfect fit for us and him. Hopefully we'll have league games when we are comfortably on top and he can come on for 15 minutes experience and give Raul a rest. Personally I have no interest in how much players cost ( or how much we sell for), happy to leave the financial side to people who know about that stuff, I'd be amazed if Fosuns money people can't keep that under control

Very much so. Raul's back up is such a hard postion to fill as we found out last year. Hopefully found the perfect way of doing that, even if we have paid more for him than Raul!

If he settles quickly, then we have an option for Raul's jaunts to play with Mexico and also when we go 2 up top or need something different from the bench.
