Welcome Jose Sa

They should have controversially dragged Rui to the recycle bin first.
Or opened a zip file called Olympiakos with all their positions in, and extracted GK to the desktop over the existing file. "Do you want to replace GK?" - Yes.

Christ I'm nerdy sometimes.

I’m trying to think of the style of play that would benefit choosing Portugal’s at best, 4th choice over their No.1 keeper.

That being said, welcome to Wolves Jose. Hopefully you’ll be a success for us.
Tbf all the knowledgeable guys on here seem to rate the Portugal manager as a couple of rungs below Saunders, maybe that means Sa is fantastic?

Indeed, guys widely seen as a joke but seems his opinion on Patricio v Sa is cock on but reverts to type for the Neves v Palinha/Carvalho/pretty much every other Portuguese midfielder who gets picked ahead of him.

Yep, was gonna say this. Santos knows jack shit when he's playing Danilo and WC over Neves, but when he doesn't pick Sa he's to be trusted.

“He’s aggressive when coming for crosses, he commands his penalty area, has excellent distribution and he’s a very pro-active goalkeeper, and will be an important part in how we want to play under Bruno." : Sellars

5 year contract is interesting too.
£10m+ in the bank for FFP purposes and then £1.35m on the outgoings tab. I'm far from convinced about the FFP line that Jeff is peddling, but that would be my take on it.

Sellars is just a mouthpiece, you missed this gem
"Jose is somebody who is very much coming into his peak years as a goalkeeper and has always been high up on our target list." He has no personal respect, but I daresay is being paid very well for it.

I mean Rui was an extremely good shot stopper who wasn’t really saving shots any more.

His distribtution was abysmal (relatively), likewise sweeping which was non existent. Add In weak from crosses (historically a key component in England) and you’ve not got a great GK there. Basically Karl Darlow lite (Newcastle’s backup GK)

The second paragraph isn’t debateable, but whether the first line was the exception or the rule we will never really know.

It makes sound financial sense in isolation. We we’re never getting a fee for him again (even if he renewed), and we were going to be in the market for a new GK in a year, max 2 years anyway.

Maybe he'll suit the way Lage wants to play more than Rui would?

We're a worse team with Sá in it.

When has Rui ever been weak from crosses?

I'm not saying he's right, or that the Sa signing will work out, but he literally explains the logic behind the signing right there. He's a player we think can play in the PL and do well, and who we want to develop.

I know none of the officials at the club know as much as you guys ;) but I'm just trying to see this in a balanced way. They seem to have lost a lot of goodwill and trust in a very short amount of time, and I don't think that's completely fair.

All those times he never came for them?

Edit - I mean he wasn’t Wayne Hennessey or Michael Oakes but it wasn’t exactly a strength.

Sa having Ruddys distribution and Aerial ability but a better shot stopper would be a decent GK.

Basically this signing to me is the same as 90% of the other ones in the last four years. I don't know anything about him, I don't watch foreign leagues at all so I'll just judge him on how he plays for us.

I just can't wait for us to play some matches so we can start getting an idea of what they're going to be like as Wolves players.

I would say on the footballing side they're taking a number of very risky gambles all at the same time, which is always going to make people edgy at best.

On the ticketing side they have been absolutely disgraceful, outright lies and a shameful policy of "if you don't pay it some other mug will, so fuck you", which is great for fans who've been following us for decades.

Other PR stuff is simply laughable, "Mexicans support us as their main team" FFS.

Our new manager appears to be a mute, he has no opinion seemingly on who we sign and sell.

I think they have lost goodwill but it's completely understandable.

Have to say I see this as an upgrade. Lost count of the number of times I yelled at the TV last season when Rui stayed rooted to his line.

I remain resolutely optimistic for the coming season
