Signed for £1m. Loaned out to Grasshoppers immediately.

Its great that we are strengthening our affiliate with one for the future, but we have a fairly urgent need ourselves as the senior team of the arrangement.

I hope this kid turns into a world beater but we have a seriously pressing central midfield need and not a sniff of a signing.

So whoever it was who posted the Jackie chan thing when we signed Hwang, is really going to struggle now we've bought another Korean who looks the same, guess he'll have to call them Jackie chan 1 and 2

Is this another work permit required loan or just the start of a cheap gamble that could become a Toti or a profit.

Maybe we should have a Welcome to Grasshoppers thread and hope every 12-18 months we can then do a welcome to Wolves thread for them.

I don't hate the model if I am honest. Not sure how I would feel if we were on the Grasshoppers end of this sort of relationship, but from the selfish point of view of a Wolves fan I have no issue with the buying and parking of talent there as a sort of development school.

If you are spending 4-6 million on these sorts of transfers a year then you only need one of them roughly ever 3 seasons to work out for the Wolves first team, for it to have been worth it relatively. I get there are other costs (wages, coaches infrastructure etc) however still I understand the model and why its attractive.

Plus strengthening Grasshoppers pushes them back toward European competition which then makes it quicker for those we consider really promising (Bolla is the first name that springs to mind) to earn the work permit points.

There has definitely been a change of strategy this season from throwing them our cast offs to buying them up and coming players who may or may not come good.

We're spending the same amount on players like this as we are in running the academy which isn't producing an awful lot. Should be a better stepping stone to first team football than the academy.

I wonder if the academy will be used purely as a revenue stream for developing lower league players.

Pretty sure Jeff made that his plan after year 1. Certainly an interview out there where he says something along these lines

Yeah I remember them saying that somewhere too. I would love to see a Moneyball style look at Academies. If you look at the England squad it shows the mix of players from various different clubs. It's so hard to actually just produce a player from your own academy straight into your first team side. I get that's a simplistic view but it makes me wonder if it's worth the cost of academy football from 8-16 once you hit a certain level and if it would be better to just look at a variation of this style of feeder teams.
