Welcome - Tomasz Kuszczak

You can't really fret too much about signing back up keepers, everyone needs one even in the knowledge that they'll likely be a drain on the wage bill while contributing nothing. At least we got Graham Stack doing social secretary duties while he was here to earn his keep. KJ sees Flatt every day - he obviously judges him not ready to step straight into the team if required. From what I have seen of him in the reserves I am strongly inclined to agree.

Whatever I spend on batteries per year on my smoke alarms is worth it ultimately even if in the grand scheme of things I could sit back annually on 31 December and declare that I needn't have bothered.

Is that how we finally got him to take a severance pay off?

Concensus among Brighton fans seems to be that Tomasz was released as a cost cutting exercise, thus indicating that he don't come cheap. So I would think that when McCarey is fit he'll be back as number two to Ikeme and Tomasz will be once more unemployed.

Excellent analogy. We may never use Kuszczak, but as has been mentioned, if Ikeme gets crocked, I would not want McCarey as 1st choice keeper, especially if we are challenging for a top 6 place

Nothing wrong with McCarey. His only really "off" performance came this season v Northampton but it turns out he was crocked with his back. Having McCarey as back up is not an issue, what is an issue is having a young kid. The fact we have only signed Tomasz until Aaron is due back kind of says we are still backing him as the #2 keeper.

I wonder how long McCarey will be happy just being number 2? Playing for Wolves then you are always waiting for an injury to the main keeper as the cup will only get you 2 or 3 games a season. Next year I could see us either promoting Flatt or bringing in a Brad Jones/Dorus De Vries style career number 2 and McCarey becoming a bit nomadic for a couple of years like Ikeme was or if not happy with that then seeking a permanent move to play.

I'm hearing that Ikeme will be off in January, so this expains bringing in Kuszczak

Nothing to do with us only having 1 fit keeper then?

Harsh to call De Vries a career number 2, he was an ever present in the league for 3 of his 4 seasons at Swansea.

So why would we sign someone on a short term contract until January to take over when Ikeme leaves in January? Ikeme is going nowhere.

Should have chucked him up front tonight.

Welcome TK.

Having yet to play, what sort of effect is Kuszczak having on the squad/Ikeme?

Keeping Ikeme on his toes and ensuring we have a decent back up should Ikeme get crocked. I fully expect him to sign a deal until the end of the season

The media have made a really big deal about Mark Schwarzer joining Leicester for what he will bring off the field as much as on it. With the experience that Kuszczak has it will do a similar thing for our keepers. (I hope)

It will be like a new signing!
