Makers is a wheated bourbon right?

Is the Makers 46 any good?

I don't know much about bourbon tbh, got a bottle of Woodford Reserve open atm but I'm finding it a bit 'meh'. I don't know if that's just because it's a bad bourbon or if I just prefer other styles of whisky but I always find myself reaching past it for a Scotch or Irish. Got a bottle of Knob Creek to open after I kill the Woodford, hopefully I get along with that one better.

Anything Maker's Mark is a safe bet, IMO, although clearly I have at least one dissenter.

I've got a bottle of Makers 46 on order. I'm not a fan of the Woodford stuff but apparently highly recommended.

Woodford Reserve is most definitely not bad. Anything in particular you did/didn't like about it?

Makers mark is... fine. I just don't see it as either particularly good value nor particularly special.

Having said that I've done the full distillery tour, done the tastings, and the 'dip your own bottle' with group of friends. It's not a brand I would ever really buy, but I would certainly drink it. :D

I just find that it lacks depth & complexity. Overly sweet vanilla and a bit of harsh new oak, that's all I get.

It'll end up sitting on my shelf for a while I think, all too easy to reach past it for something else at the moment.
 
I think that'd be fair. I'm assuming you got the regular bourbon. Maybe something like a rye is more your speed?

My current go-to bourbon is four roses. pretty inexpensive and tastes awesome. they have higher end stuff but I normally reach for the lower end yellow label.
 
In the Pot Still in Glasgow. Fucking heaven.

Currently sipping an 8yr Glendronach cask strength (60.1%) single cask from a first fill sherry hogshead. Absolutely magical whisky.
 
Now on a heavily peated 10yr Bunnahabhain. Liquid fucking gold. Absolutely immaculate.

Opened a bottle of Tyrconnell Single Malt I have had for a while - very drinkable.
 
Balcones - Texas single malt. What a superb whisky. Just gorgeous. Genuinely one of the best I've had for a while, totally opened me up to American single malts.
 
anCnoc 24 year old. Absolutely glorious. The absolute pinnacle of sherry cask finished scotch. £117 I paid for a bottle. Bargain.

I was about to question the price, and then I went and checked about some of the wine that I would be after were I still a proper wine drinker and had the money.

A case of 2002 Chateau Margaux is coming in about £3,930 for 12 bottles.
