Who are ya? Who are ya?

It certainly isn't a student pub pre match!

It's a funny thought sending you into a student pub, just you surrounded by hundreds of kids asking them "are you from the Wolves Forum?" 🤣

Actually, a few of us met for the first time with that very question! I think Cyber felt a little uneasy asking a large group of blokes if it was us just in case we had set him up as you've described 😂
Yea. Can you imagine some old geeza asking kids that... :ROFLMAO:

I know. They are a million miles away from the pubs on match day. Back in the day matchday pubs were slightly different to what they are now. I'm sure you remember those days?

Google's information is some way out of date...

For a decade or more it was a grotty Scream pub which was indeed aimed (sort of) at students and it got ignored by all and sundry. They did it up in about 2017, got rid of all that nonsense branding (don't even know if those places exist any more) and it's just a pub now.

Put it this way, if I were a student now I wouldn't be able to afford to drink in there!

Wolves is only nominally a university town. Yes, there is a campus here but nothing is geared up for them within the city centre at all. Don't think there's a single place that caters for them these days. You never see big groups of them, not in the week, not at weekends.

There are nearly 24,000 students enrolled at Wolves University. That's a little more than nominal. I have no idea what they do these days (not in the pandemic obviously), but i remember being that young. No way i was stopping in at the weekends. They must do something in groups.

Well, if they are then it isn't in any of the main pubs in town because I suspect we'd have seen them at some point.

Loads of them will still live at home, there's a larger than normal percentage of local students, you don't get masses of youngsters coming from all over the country to live in Wolverhampton. It's not like a Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Bristol, York etc. Never has been.

I know every pub in town to some extent or other. I can guarantee you that none of them focus on students, not in the slightest.

Fair enough if you frequent them nowadays.
In fairness if you were from outside of Wolverhampton you wouldn't want to be coming to live here full stop! Not in the areas around the centre anyway.
I see you are from Bilbrook. It's a nice part of Wolves. I live in the Ghetto. It's not pretty..

The Hatherton did for a while, the poor fuckers

You see a fair number of students in Boho. Never seem to see them in places like the Western.

There used to be way more student friendly places though, and this is going back a bit but places like the Dorchester and Screamers was pretty much students. The Varsity & London, as you said, were trying to cater for that crowd. My memory gets a bit hazy but it felt like late 90s / early 2000s had loads of places for students.

My social life in wolves pretty much revolved around the varsity, royal London and the student union in those days.

The Goal Post had a spell where they tried to be a student pub. Didn't last long.

My hair has grown out a bit since I last added to this thread...

Almost 30 and I still look like a kid. I might even look younger than I did in the pic I posted all of 7 years ago now. o_O

EDIT: sorry for the sizing; editing photos on Mac eludes me.

You look way tougher than I imagined!

It's not a student pub really, nowhere is in town.

The Varsity has been closed since about 2007 :D
I think I was in there around Jan 2010. We used to go there and the Hogs Head before we used the forum and started meeting you lot in the Western or the London
