Who do you want in goal?

Only just seen this thread.

I think Pope is England's best keeper. I know people like Henderson, but when he fucks up it's blooper dvd level. I'd need to see him consistently in the PL before I'd have him above Pope and Pickford isn't worth discussing, although tbf there's only 1 goal for England I'd say he T-Rexd it.

Rui is not a world class keeper, that's why at touching 30 and with nigh on 100 international caps he was still at Sporting. I thought he was OK in his first season, very good last and pretty poor this - at least 4 goals on him, 3 of which were hit hard, but a yard either side of him, that's clearly a weakness. He's not commanding of his box, but apart from the odd time is consistent with that, defensively that shouldn't be a problem as long as we defend properly, not doing so at set pieces has compounded that.

He's better than Pope though who is only a couple of years younger and plays behind a team who is built to stop the opposition. He also doesn't seem to be being courted by the top clubs. Rui unfortunately for him didn't used to live around the corner from Cyber

You were doing so well til the last line!

Shots low and hard near a keeper are extremely difficult to save compared to what people think, its in a difficult mid ground in terms of trying to get low quick enough but straight over, like a collapse rather than a spring as otherwise you risk going over the ball.

The shot by Eze I would say the keeper has an easier chance if it was towards a corner.

As a one off maybe, not as a theme though, then it's just a weakness. Giroud, Eze, N'dombele

Giroud wasn't his fault, that was 50/50 whether it hits him and bounces out or goes in. Boly's fault plus not stopping the cross.

Ndombele and Eze he definitely should save, as he should the Murphy free kick.

Five points there...

My last bit. Pope uses his legs a lot. As does Kaspar S as did his father as does de Gea. Rui does not. Perhaps that’s the reason Rui gets beaten close to him? Anyhoo, I picked the right week for this thread given Allison Becker’s double cock up ,Popes gift and a couple of other notable howlers from the much heralded Martinez
Goalkeepers are human

No they're not

We could have had Martinez if our fans weren't morons and preferred League One standard Ikeme.

There's no chance we sign a better keeper than Rui.
Must... resist...

He was League One standard.

2015/16 is the worst full season I've ever seen from any first choice Wolves keeper. Blatantly directly at fault for 10+ goals.

Sometimes it’s just good to let patent nonsense slide.
I assume you're referring to whatever my defense of Carl would have been. ;)

Sycopanthia stated "goalkeepers are not human". I was a goalkeeper for 25 years, i agree totally with him. And my good lady certainly does.

Off to find what planet I come from...(although it could be said Rugeley is a different world)
