This photo appeared on the back cover of the 1984 Encyclopedia of British Football. With apologies to you old Wolves fans, I know who the Spurs player is but don’t recognise the player in gold and black. I am a Falkirk FC fan who many, many years ago got lost in Wolverhampton traversing the link between the M6 and the M5 and ended up outside Molineux. This mystery has been bugging a group of us up here in SCOTLAND for some time now so if anybody can put us out of our misery 😫 we will be eternally grateful. Thanks

I think the date of the book would have been confusing, as the picture, I think, dates from September 1981.

Oh for the days of one substitute! Made for a far more competitive league.

Yep - my mistake
Thanks. Have found a team photo from1979-80 and Norman Bell is there. Certainly looks like the same guy. Sitting in the same row alongside Emlyn Hughes, Willie Carr and Derek Parkin.

Definetely Norman Bell.
I met and got to know Norman about 15/ 16 year’s ago when our lads were playing for the same team.
Very quiet and unassuming character, really nice bloke.
In fact, we discussed football for about a month when we first met and I didn’t realise it was Norman Bell. Took me by surprise when he told me his first name, as he was smaller than I expected, and I then put 2 and 2 together!...derrrr!
Ancient history now and his lad went to Fleetwood if I recall, my lad went to play for Mel Eves and Dean Edwards

I love hearing stories like this Charlie.

Before my time but his goal record looks pretty good on paper especially if he didn't start many games.

big norm in action. as a 2nd half sub of course + i/v at the end

That’s brought a real tear to my eye, weren’t with the 1 million fans that went to Chorley, but I was there that day in 1981
Amazing, three centre forwards, real centre halves and no VAR,...luxury sheer luxury
