Haven't started one for ages so here's the highlights from BBC

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42519689

Don't think there was any malice in Vinagre's challenge but can understand why he was given a red.

The red card for Fer was a terrible decision, should have been a yellow. I'm sure that will be appealed.

Unfortunate for Vinagre but definitely a red. Their's was only a yellow!

Just seen the BBC highlights. Vinagre is a red because of how high up he caught Dyer, but was unlucky the latter he was falling at the time, wasn't malicious and certainly not a leg breaker as per Nathan Blake apparently.

Fer loses the ball and maliciously takes a swipe at Costa, it's not a taking one for the team challenge and is malicious, for me borderline, I'd probably go yellow, but it's different to what's been reported as it came from being frustrated from the original challenge.

Hause definitely should have scored and probably so should have Bright.

Vinagre's was a red card. Stonewall. A really dangerous challenge.

Fer's was cynical but a yellow card, never a red.

Just seen the highlights. Horrible challenge, definitely a red for Vinagre.

We were playing well. Should have been winning. Bright missing the best chance (hit the target and you score, from 10 yards). Red card ruined it. Their red was a joke, just breaking up play in the break but gets sent off. We tried after but not obviously the team going to win. Think a replay is good. Gives the fringe players another game.

Just got in, thought we played well, for me we dominated most of the game, they only really put us under any sustained pressure for a short period when they took off a defender for a striker when we were down to 10 but even then we created some decent chances on the break, after the teams were evened up thought we were gunna take it. Too far away to judge our red card and was amazed at theirs although it was very cynical. Want to see again the goal we had disallowed as it seemed to me the defender just slipped over. Every one played well, Costa very lively and the pass for Mir to have a shot was excellent, good block by the defender, Bright was excellent for most of the game although went into his frustrating side just before being hooked. Alf is a beast and MGW linked play very well, disappointed when he got taken off after the red card, think they looked a good pair in CM. Hause looked like he'd been playing all season and is a terrific replacement for Boly. Early days for Mir bur looked more than useful. Overall a good performance, shame we couldn't get the goal we deserved

Definite red for Vinagre. He was quite unlucky but it's too high and is dangerous. There's is probably not a red but if the ref thinks it is malicious as Tony mentioned I can see why he gave it

Based on those highlights it's a shame we weren't out of sight by the time our red card happened.

Fer's red looks extremely harsh, properly cynical but no real force in his challenge to cause any damage it's just a standard professional foul. Vinagre's looks completely justified, not malicious as he's just trying to step over the ball to shield it but as soon as Dyer nicks it away then it's going to end badly.

Bright's miss on the follow up looks poor, should at least hit the target. Hause seems to get ahead of the ball a bit so the balls behind him and makes it more difficult than it should have been.

From the other thread:

Just got home, bloody cold and not a great game. Since no one else has done it here's my ratings:

Norris: 8. Looks very good, not much to do, but so calm. Good feet too.

Doc. 8. Does what he does

Bennett. 8. See above

Coady. 8. See above

House. 8.5. Looked very good and brought the ball forward very well. Long term a back 3 of Hause, Coady & Boly would be my choice.

Vini. 6. Shame he got sent off, looked ok before. Sending off was very close to me, but as they were going away from me have no idea what happened.

Alf. 9 and MotM. Class. Dealt with everything and got forward well. Doesn't have the passing of Neves or Saiss though.

MGW. 7. Was playing the Neves role and playing it well. Real shame he came off.

Bright. 7. I love the guy, but his decision making really isn't there yet.

Costa. 8.5. Looked back to his best. Class, just needs to improve his finishing.

Binatini. 7. Not as good as he has been and his lack of pace was shown up a couple of times

Baz. 6. Gets caught out of position way too much.

Cav. 8. See Doc.

Mir. 7. Looks like he could be good, not on for long enough to judge properly.

Also would no way should it have been pulled back for the 'goal' in the first half. I was in line with Bright, the ref wasn't even looking at him. God knows how he gave a foul.

Just seen the Vinagre red. It’s unlucky but awful. The ball was never where his foot goes. If after didn’t get a touch on it, he would have still missed the ball and nailed him

Vinagre definitely a red.
Fer never is for me. I don't see anything like enough malice. It's the kind of challenge that pisses me off, and kinda makes me wish we had sin bins like rugby does for things like that, but only a yellow.

Should absolutely have won going off the highlights.
A couple of decent saves and some poor finishing denied us.
Also what an important touch from Hause to cause Bony to fluff when it seemed easy to score.

I see a Hause - Coady - Boly front three on the horizon.

What have Jota, Bonatini and Cav done wrong? :icon_wink:

agree with all of this... exactly how I saw the match.

Looks like we did well on the highlights, clear red for Vinagre looked dreadful on the replay but rather that happen in the cup he will learn from that. Think I may have to head down to Swansea can't wait to see more of MGW and Mir both look hugely promising.

Hause much be in contention for a first team slot now unless Boly doesn't like it on the right??

Can see why Vinagre was sent off after the highlights, wasn't clear at the actual game. The Fer one is an appalling decision, it's the sort of foul you'll see in a lot of games. It's cynical no doubt about it, but every time if it's 11 against 11 it's a yellow card all day long.

We could and possibly should have been in front before the red card. We were still pretty much in control despite their man advantage and as the highlights showed, Swansea never really caused Norris any problems apart from the first half free-kick.

Big shout out to Alf, thought he was immense today. We basically played with one central midfielder for over 45 minutes and you'd never really have noticed. Admittedly Swansea were shite (you can see why they are where they are) but we still created the better chances, Rafa looks decent and a different option to Leo, got in behind and an aerial presence too.

The replay will do us no harm and we should still have enough to get to the fourth round. Swansea really won't fancy another game with their perilous position in the league but we should be able to put out a team to win there.

Yeah Vinagre red was justified although dont think there was any malice there. As for Fer, of course usually its a yellow but personally I'm glad it was red, this kind of cynical foul drives me nuts, Costa got away from him (including a foul before the trip) and we were about to spring forward in a good situation when Fer just tripped him, absolutely no chance of getting the ball just out and out cheating, should be a red card every time.....wont happen though

Vinagre is a red, but there’s no malice - he over compensated for the first guy pulling him. He’s young and he’ll learn.

Good to see MGW playing well before the red, and Hause getting good time - I’d love to see him, coady and Boly at some point...

I can see why Fer was sent off, there was no attempt for the ball it was just a kick to stop Costa. I certainly don't think it's the worst red I've ever seen.

Having seen the highlights have to agree with everyone else. Vinagre not maicious but a clear - as for their red, I'm absolutely with Sycophantia - yellow every day but that sort of challenge really pisses me off. Good for you Anthony Taylor. And Bright and KH - should have scored, boys.
