Wolves 0-1 Tottenham: Verdict Thread

Thought the whole point of these new guidelines for fouls were to stop players manufacturing contact. Obvious from the opposite end of the pitch what Alli had done and it looks even worse on TV, useless.

Love the pressing and playing on the front foot, refreshing after last season. Adama shows exactly why he's so frustrating, absolutely unplayable for large parts then hits a one v one straight at the keeper when he could have passed to the huge gap to the keepers right or even gone round Lloris. Raul probably scores his chance when he's fully up to match speed. Think if this style and chance creation is sustained we'll be in the top half at the end of the season. Kilman was excellent, not been a huge fan due to his lack of pace but his positioning seems to be improving meaning it's not as much of a factor.

Jesus, seeing that angle it’s clearly a blatant cheat. I’m even more fuming now.
Exactly, 3 seconds looking at that and it's obvious he's cheating, but VAR won't look at it.

Meanwhile we'll no doubt be subjected to the whole pantomime of the ref going over to the monitor and looking at something 50 times in ultra slow motion at points this season.

I could accept it before VAR came in, mistakes happen as much as it's galling, but what is the actual fucking point of it if it can't even identify blatant cheating?

Lot of gold tinted specs here.

Everyone knows he bought it. But Sa has still made some form of challenge despite trying to pull out. He got out quick and stops but then makes the extra move. Alli throws himself into Sa but he’s also moving towards Alli and they meet in the middle.

For those reasons, the ref gives it, and VAR isn’t going to overturn it.

The Semedo one isn’t remotely comparable. He’s looking for it as well knowing he can boot it out of play and wait for contact. But it’s a coming together more than an obvious challenge. It’s those sort of comings together they are allowing all over the pitch, which is better for the game in general than the stop start and penalty shoot outs every game was reduced to last year.

From the angle on that clip, he has made no challenge at all really. Maybe if Deli had gone with the ball he would have clipped his foot but Deli actually jumps into Sa and goes sideways to do it.

No issue with the ref giving it as from the angle behind it looks as a clear a penalty you will see and my view was he just clipped him as he tried to go around him but that didn't happen at all. No gold tinted specs here, just eyes that are working this morning.

On the Semedo one At the time didn't think it was a penalty and still don't.

Tbf he made up quite a bit of ground to block that shot

Disagree 100% not gold tinted specs at all, Alli instigates the contact, which the authorities said they were trying to eliminate. Semedo there was actual contact, thigh on thigh (minimal but knocked him off balance) neither were pens for me but if one is given, the other should be too

Agreed. I've never really agreed with the "Kilman is slower than a snail" comments that multiple people have said on here. But then there seemed little point in debating the point because... well, what can you say other than "i disagree"? He's not Adama, but I actually think it's hugely disrespectful to say he has "no pace" when he clearly does.

Coady on the other hand...

He does make a challenge though. He’s not stationary. If he was then as I said ages ago Alli gets booked and in all likelihood no contact is made.

He’s bought it, but Sa has allowed him to. No one is saying it’s not a pen if it’s the other way round.

I struggle to think of a time Kilman has seriously let us down, given a goal away or had a “mare”. He’s a very steady player if he’s not being shunted to LB as he was a couple of times last season, and even then he wasn’t TOO bad.

I would.
Sa is actually stopping, I would be on yourside of this if Deli followed the ball but he doesn't, he actually leaps sideways into Sa. Just as Deli leaps into action, Sa is stopping his forward motion and his leading leg is close to hitting the ground, that would have been what caused a foul if Deli had followed the ball. Jumping into the keeper is not so much buying it but more blatant shoplifting and laughing at the security guard as you stroll out

It's gone now, so I am not going to keep bouncing back and forth on this. At the time thought it was a penalty but on the replay its a dive. Nowt we can do now

The one late in the 2nd hald half, he was done because of how high we pushed up, we know Coady will get done by a decent punt, always been his main weakness and you put him on the half way line with every midfielder and forward 20+ yards ahead of him and thats going to be the danger.
There was a similar one right at the end but the punt was down the wing and he had enough pace to get over and put in a sliding challenge.
Ideally if he remains in the team he needs someone rapid alongside him but right now we don't have anyone other than Mosq and he is crocked.

I wonder if we'll see Coady replaced by Kilman when Mosquera/ Boly are fit.

That Alli replay is a bit deceptive IMO. In super slo-mo it looks like he jumps towards Sa. In reality at full speed it's just his momentum from running forwards towards goal at speed. He's just tapped the ball around Sa with his right foot and his foot has just landed from that. He then needs to try and change direction towards the ball at full speed. Sa comes and makes contact before he can do that.

There's no doubt he sees Sa coming and relaxes and allows the contact. That doesn't mean he jumped into him though. Slo-mo is misleading.

He's had quite a few rocky games, Arsenal at home I'll give him a bit of a pass as we put him at LB (that is the only time he's ever started there I think - still though, genuinely looked like a parks player, he was appalling), was awful away at Burnley last season and not much better at home to Southampton. The goal away at Man Utd last season was his fault. It can't all be on him but he was all at sea against set pieces at home to Brighton. Given he's only ever started 18 league games for us, his ratio of good/bad games is probably the worst of any of our defenders.

But he's played very well in the first two games this season and long may it continue.

Surprised the xG is so high, some of the chances now I have seen them properly aren't what I'd consider high quality ones, lot of frantic and snatched at ones.

Also whilst I get Alli is starting to go over you can't come out the way Sa did, shame as looked and sounded very good otherwise, already winning me over.
Traore has had 2 golden chances (not including the volley) and kilman a free header from 6 yards pit against leicester. I’d imagine those 3 will score highly on the XG rating
