Really disappointing that. This was basically our season, there is nothing to play for in the league and we put in a showing like that against a team totally out of form.

Ruddy: A couple of good saves. Unlucky on the first goal. Absolutely shite on the second.

Dendoncker: Ridiculous ball back to Ruddy for the second goal, even allowing for the fact he should do better. Not much else of note.

Saiss: Probably our best player on the night, some top blocks at times.

Kilman: Get rid please, nothing like good enough. Played Ings on for the goal, way too slow in mind and body.

Hoever: He's a decent footballer but I don't know as a wing back. He can't cross for shit. I'd like to see him in a back three.

Jonny: Great to have him back, just standard Jonny. Obviously we need to build his gametime up.

Neves: Quiet game, didn't do much. Free kicks have totally gone to pot, never even looks like scoring these days.

Moutinho: Even quieter game, did even less (other than nearly giving away a pen).

Vitinha: He is a central midfielder. Stop playing him on the left or as a #10. I'm not going to judge him while we keep playing him out of position.

Gibbs-White: Decent, obviously should have had a pen but apparently they have now changed the VAR rules so you need to have your legs broken before they'll give you one. Linked the play well at times. Probably shouldn't have gone off.

Silva: Didn't impose himself at all. I can grant him time, that's ok, but at least have a go.

Ait-Nouri: I can't see anything there that's worth paying £20m for.

Neto: One great run from which we should have scored. Otherwise we hardly gave him the ball.

Adama: Crap. Didn't beat a single man and missed a sitter. Shocking performance.

José: His movement is absolutely dreadful. He doesn't ever show for the ball. Not a fucking hope we spend that kind of money on him.

Ultimately we cannot keep going through games with one shot on target. That was poor, as much as Moss has robbed us of a penalty.

If we could fast forward to August then that would be nice.

Load of rubbish. Thought Saiss, Hoever and MGW played well. Meh apart from that.

2 words: fucking shit.

Though apparently we were cavalier and at our attacking best for the first 30 minutes of the 2nd half while I was busy making pizzas...

Fail to see the difference between Neto and Adama tonight, other than peoples preconceptions.

Sleepwalked out of the Cup. Learnt a few of things though.

Without Neto we have next to nothing in attack.
Neves free kicks are consistently poor.
Hoever can't cross.
Moutinho is on borrowed time.
Vitinha is not a wide forward.

I think Nuno got that one wrong, Vitinha and MGW out of position. I'd have preferred Neves, Mout and OO/MGW in a 3 with WJ and Silva up front.

Not sure why I'm surprised any more - dreadful overall performance once again.

MGW and Vitinha can feel hard done by coming off when others were absolutely stinking out the place with neither playing in their main positions. Hoever did OK and Saiss was good in the first half.

Adama with a 1/10 cameo.

Not sure any of those are novel learnings really.

He's basically taken that opportunity to Semedo, Coady, Neto and Adama. It's really odd and a real shame. I get we've been through a fairly busy run of games and we've had quite a few injuries but it feels like that was the last meaningful game.

it also puts pressure on the game Sunday (as Del said, not that a win necessarily justifies it). Have to put be putting together some good performances between now and the rest of the season - from that perspective this is the season for fans not to be there.

Sums the season up for sure.

Individually I thought MGW looked decent, Saiss is alright in that central role for if we ever need him there and was good for Jonny to get 45 minutes.

copy/paste from any of the last 15 threads, not sure the point in taking out the time to rehash again

A perfectly executed plan:

We didn't want to win, didn't try to win, and didn't get near the win.

Made to look like absolute mugs by the team in the worst form in the league, because of a team selection and system that didn't give us a hope.

We're the most boring fucking side in the league, bar none. That 541 formation is a pile of wank.

You're not going to dominate anything with midfielders who are scared of the opposition penalty box, wingbacks who can't create, and a front three that's taking social distance far too seriously.

That said, mgw, Vitinha and Fabio were all completely thrown under the bus by that tonight. I have absolutely no idea how we simultaneously manage to have a front three that has nobody near them, but also manage to let the opposition always have time on the ball, and get cut through so frequently.

Tl;dr summary - wank, and no sign or hope it's getting any better.

I'm not so bothered about the cup. This season is null and void. Just stay in the division anyway they can.
This game? Not even one thing to take a positive from. Pah..

Embarrassing. Some of our second string given the chance to show us the future. It doesn`t look bright to me. Absolute terrible team selection, hope it doesn`t put a dent in the team`s confidence.

Nuno threw us out the Cup tonight when we had nothing else to play for - no excuse for that.

They were all rubbish, Saiss did ok, that was it.

Neves and Moutinho were flogged to death again when we have 35 central midfielders at the club.

Give me a shout on Silva in about three years when he’s had his haircut, put on two stone, stopped rolling about like a six year old and learned that trapping a ball doesn’t involve kicking it five yards.

Angry and disappointed tonight.

Fabio was utter shit. Stop giving him a pass because you got all excited when we signed him.

Since I can't reply in the other thread - when I posted that I think it'll be the end once the season's over, I mean I'm really starting to think Nuno will not be managing us next season.

I don't want to read too much into it and it's been done to death elsewhere so I will try not to rehash it here but he looks absolutely exhausted.

What is clear - and I'm basing this on more than tonight - is that a lot of change is needed. Like, a *lot*. Maybe more than most of us previously thought. Both in terms of personnel and how we play. There are very few things working at the moment, very few players playing well, and we never look cohesive or in control of what we're doing, even when we have a strong team out.
