Wolves 0-2 Southampton (FAC): The Verdict

Thanks. I still think there's a lot of projection there which isn't supported by evidence on the field. I think there's a lot more chance we make a big loss on him than any type of profit or that he plays up to his value.
There has to be projection though, he's 18 and as much as i think i know what he could be i may or may not be wrong. For me i can see enough although i think it's hard for any striker in our team at the moment to show what they're about. Even Raul wasn't playing great before his injury but he's got that something about him where he can score from nothing which Fabio hasn't got at the moment.

The 1 thing i would say is that despite us not being great and us not really having any attacking flow what so ever Fabio still gets chances. Should he have more goals yes but he's also played far too much. I know some people won't have it but he literally could have developed so much in 6 months but to help him the team have to develop too.

What i don't get is that those who seem to write Fabio off at the moment are also the ones bigging up WJ. He's won a penalty, nearly scored a couple of times, held the ball up a couple of times and that's it. He's not come in and looked a world beater has he? Now i've seen enough of him in Spain to know he's a decent enough striker who can definitely hold the ball up and while he can look cumbersome at times is more than capable of scoring in this league but this team at the moment isn't going to help him, so for me again it's not WJ's fault.

I doubt Fosun are in the business of Mendes/FFP favours. Similar accusations thrown at Neto signing.
Neto was less than half the money though and was having an impact in the squad from very early on.

£35m is overpaying. We’re either stupid, had our pants pulled down or there’s something else to it. The latter is probably the best scenario.

At 35m, Silva should be oven ready, absolutely no sign of that at the moment. I think the fee has overloaded the pressure on him, and boy doesnt it show.

Wolves/Jeff are assuming Fabio Silva is going to be the next Joao Felix (in terms of worth) based on how many goals he scored for Porto's youth team. They will live and die by that assessment.

Basically Benfica’s best player at 18 though.

You can't compare him to João Félix. He'll end up being one of the best players in the world. What was the fee for Félix? £120M? More?

I wasn't comparing him. Wolves saw potential in Silva, saw Felix go for silly money and thought "we'll have some of that and get in for him early".

Felix is 3 years older than him tbf. Very different types of players too so I don't expect the same things from him.

Have we got at least 2 more years of this Fabio circular conversation?

It all depends if 1/ He becomes the Hulk between the end of the season and the start of next, and 2/ He reads the Cristiano Ronaldo book of football skills...

I wish people would stop acting like Fabio's mum, or that we expect him to be reading the forum with tears streaming down his baby-soft cheeks.
I'm imagining him sitting in the corner blarting his eyes out like a babby right now because of us nasty c**ts on here... :ROFLMAO:

I'm still only up til last night at 10:26 but I reckon Burnely should go all out for Traore

Currently I feel like Silva shows none of the qualities that you would associate with a top quality prospect. His movement, touch, hold up or pressing doesn't stand out at this level, he doesn't look strong or quick in movement or mind. He doesn't seem to strike the ball well in the chances he has gotten neither, bar maybe the goals for the u23 he got against Donny?

IIt's difficult as he appears to be a striker bought to play in the box, and we are never in the box, however, he also attributes to that problem. If he was a Wolves graduate or someone we had signed from Rochdale you'd currently be saying he needs to go out on loan or have a spell at Grasshoppers Zurich. In a season of abject failure compared to what we hoped, he feels a key part of that regardless of the circumstances that see him playing. He feels like a vanity signing at the moment.

I hope I am as wrong as him as I was about Neto, but by this time last year I was already totally changed in my opinion on that signing, this one I started off giving them the benefit of the doubt (partly because of that) and the more I see of him, the more I am convinced he won't even match the 19 career prem goals that Connor Wickham managed.
His movement and finishing (albeit in training) looks excellent.
1st touch is good.
Ignoring the press especially as he would be pressing on his fucking own at the minute.

What lacks at the minute is speed of Thought this will improve with experience.

He will never be quick.

He looks a prospect

He looks an absolute waste of money

I never said his first touch was poor, I said nothing he does stands out as a top quality prospective at this level.
He is bang average. On what he has shown so far he might scrape a living in a top division but not the premier league. He is woefully lacking star quality so far. He is Clive Allen light. He will have one good season in the next 10 and then disappear
