Wolves 1-0 Sheff Utd: Verdict Thread

19 points from the last 13 games (since the defeat to you know who). At the very least reassures me we aren't the team that won once in ten in that terrible run. Either side of that we've been (boringly) mid-table

xG was 1.3 Vs 0.3

Big chance on 81 which I think was Traore?

Edit. It would have been Saiss

I'd probably sacrifice Saiss for one of Vitinha/MGW and get four at the back bedded in.
No way I'd sacrifice Saiss, who swopped from right to left with Boly, and paired well with Semedo.
If you want to play 4 at the back it has to be Coady to go. Vitinha came on today and was anonymous.

There has been glimmers of positive play too. We can do it, they are just clearly being told to be more passive.

Thought the sub was fine tbh, though you are right Vitinha isn't a ten
Should've been MGW or Corbeanu depending on formation. To go even more defensive was unnecessarily defensive by Nuno.

I don't agree with Del's histrionics but he's not far off with learning absolutely nothing from this game apart from the fact José shows he's a decent finisher.

Awful. Watching Wolves this season is not an enjoyable experience at all. Our games have generally been terrible entertainment.
You do know there is a way of not watching it don't you ?

RAN did well tonight, and was enough of a shithouse to not get sent off.

Really good on the ball, and quick of thought too.

Not sure it was that negative, he just wanted someone who'd put their foot on it. Which Vitinha did. Against Fulham he put Morgan on because he needed someone who would cover more ground, particularly in transitions.

I understand where you're coming from but with Moutinho and Donk you would think that person is already on the pitch.

Vitinha will be an asset for a possession based approach, happy to get a ball into feet under pressure and pass it on.

That’s this seasons Saturday hoodoo broken. Let’s break this seasons claret and blue one next week.
Reminded me of the post lockdown games last season where we just had/did enough.
MOTM Semedo - excellent throughout the game.

But i don't think we would be as passive if the fans were there, but that's a circular argument.

Surely right now with no fans will have teams playing as closely as possible to their managers intentions? No distractions or other influences to stray their minds.

Can't be much of an endorsement if you're awaiting fans back in the ground to offer alternative tactics to what the manager wants to pursue. Not sure it's a recipe for success either, fans wanting one thing but the manager coaching another, remember when Swansea came Molineux and a half arsed fan induced press lead to a Swansea goal in about 3 passes?

So what *was* the point of that selection and approach? I get sometimes you need to grind a win out, but we're beyond that now. We've earned nothing and learned nothing - is that not a waste?

Nunos comments, he knows what's wrong but can't seem to change it

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Sky Sports: "It wasn't a good game. We were solid, compact and we had chances. We started the second half well and scored the goal, but then we dropped too much. We allowed Sheffield United to control the game, and we need to do much better with our counter-attacks.

"There’s always a sense of protection to keep what you have. Clearly that’s not always the best way to do it. That’s something we have to improve going forward. The second half was much better, the aggression was there.

"We have to make decisions based on the squad and the players. It’s not about the system, it’s more about the approach and idea that we have to build on.

"We achieved a good result today. It wasn’t the best performance today, let’s hope we can improve on the performance."
