Wolves 1-0 Sheff Utd: Verdict Thread

So what *was* the point of that selection and approach? I get sometimes you need to grind a win out, but we're beyond that now. We've earned nothing and learned nothing - is that not a waste?
A win is always good and not a waste. I don't mind the formation but the lack of trying players or playing a less turgid style is a waste of a game.

As I said to play that style and that way at home against bottom of the league is embarrassing.

Personally think you'll start seeing less and less of Moutinho next season and more and more Vitinha (always assumed that was the plan anyway)

After we've brought him of course

As i have said before, i would rather play shit and win 1-0, then play well and lose. People remember results, not performances, and we have so many key players missing.
I'm more likely to remember events from an entertaining game than a couple of numbers from something that sent me to sleep

Now is the time to try and bed him in a bit though: give Moutinho 50/60 minutes then bring Vitinha on etc.

Season is over as in any real targets only aims now should be to get 50 points and win the BCD.
We have some big issues even with everyone fit I don’t think we’d be much higher than we are now.
We’ve gone stale and need to freshen up in the summer.

3 points towards lots more money ???
Really? You're happy to bore our way through the next six games for the sake of a few million quid, to the detriment of the development of young talent, and the abandonment of a "transition" to a more dominant, progressive style of football?

To expect entertaining play when we are missing Neves, Neto and Jiminez is delusional.
We got a win with a goal from Willian and kept a clean sheet and learned that Semedo is turning into quality, Boly is back to his best and Traore can still do the business.

I think that's letting them off the hook considerably. We weren't all that good for most of the season with Neto and Neves, and even the first 10 games with Raul had few scintillating performances. And you can take that back to the post lockdown end of last season where there some very ordinary (being generous) performances.

Game was meh, followed by a moment of class, followed by 10 mins of shite and ended back at meh.

Thought Jose was good with his hold up and link play. Semedo and Boly good.

Definitely now got our flip flops packed and ready for the beach. Doubt we will see much excitement between now and Man Utd. BBC face a tough job talking up our game v Burnley next week.
Hopefully some changes to the standard set up but won't expect it.
6 to go and fake season 20/21 can fuck off.

I'm conflicted on the one hand I hate this season, think it's a facsimile of real football, we were without 4 of our best 11, we aren't going down and we won.

All that said, I'm concerned by Nuno, the negative approach against a side with zero confidence isn't acceptable and it's a consistent tactic. If I could change one thing about him it's that, there is no reason to feel your way into games like tonight. 4231 is too gung ho, 343 too conservative. I don't know why he can't get the balance right in either

I hope Podence does have a knock, because if not some of those 50/50's he turned into 30/70s to not win the ball are a problem

Much like the Fulham game, no point in pretending we did well, did we do enough to win the game though, probably yes. They offered practically nothing (as you might expect from a team rooted to the bottom with their goalscoring record), wish the comms would have shut up about them "deserving" something, on what basis? We know where we are, play three centre halves and we're broadly speaking very hard to score against but create very little ourselves, a back four and it's like a basketball game.

Chalk it off, another game down, then we can forget this season.

Rui: Safe under the high ball and one good save.

Saiss: Solid defensively, a bit lax in possession at times. Denied a goal by a good save.

Coady: Not much of note, was in the right place when it mattered a couple of times.

Boly: No secret that we're always going to look more secure when he's in the team. Nearly scored with an audacious effort.

Semedo: Fairly low bar but my MOTM, defensively untroubled, critical block before we scored, carried the ball well.

Ait-Nouri: Again defended fine...was lucky not to be sent off though, let's just say I've seen them given. Set pieces weren't too bad.

Moutinho: Mopped stuff up well as he always does, didn't offer much creatively.

Dendoncker: Unremarkable stuff for the most part but set Adama away for the goal.

Podence: It's not quite happening for him at the moment (though again he did play his part in the goal), he's trying a lot with a low success rate. He clearly is way off being fully fit but needs must.

Adama: Finishing is rickety, we already know that. Great work on the goal though. Keeping it simple as he did there is always best for him.

José: Basically the same as the Fulham game without VAR sticking its beak in. Not a difficult chance by any means but you still need to stick them away, some glimpses of decent link play, even won the odd header....but there's still nothing like enough involvement. Still, nice for him to not end up with a 0 goals record when he leaves us in a few weeks.

Vitinha: Not much involvement, we couldn't get him on the ball much.

Fabio: As we know, much more dynamic than José. Don't think his chance was a particularly strong one, going away from goal and hitting across the keeper from that range isn't a great opportunity.

41 points, a mark we never managed in any of our four pre-Nuno PL seasons and still six games to go. It's been a difficult season but on the whole, it's just unremarkable more than anything. Take our best players out for long spells and we'll perform like a mid-table side, we are as mid-table as it gets right now. Which in the circumstances, fine.

Certainly isn't full match fit. He was gone after 55 mins.

Yes, but the most obvious one was only after about 15 minutes, when Semedo brought the ball out of defence on the left from their crap corner, played the ball to him about 20 yards out and he slowed up so that the defender put the ball out for a throw, rather than just getting in ahead of him or at the same time and taking a clattering. If he was managing an injury then fine, if not it was cowardly

Rightly so. He was the worst player on the pitch by a good margin. If he's injured, don't play him, utilise the other players in the squad. Except Nuno doesn't.
