Wolves 1-2 Everton: Verdict Thread

Our anonymous mate Jeff. Christ people are fickle.

you make plenty of good points but when I read stuff like that I can’t be arsed to actually discuss, what is the point

I know that there's going to be much eye rolling from a certain group on here at this comment but that result (and this run of form) is down to injuries + inexperience.

I don't care how talented your squad is if you have 7 injuries to first team players and field as many children as we're being forced to then you're going to lose tightly fought games like this one.

Nuno said that this current situation is his toughest challenge so far at Wolves and I agree with him. He's clearly scrambling for answers. Different formations/personnel each week. It's so unlike him but he's been forced into it.

We just need those 7 back asap.

Frustrating, bordering on extremely annoying. We didn't deserve to win, didn't do enough, and then get suckered punch with their only chance after the 7th minute.

We created nothing second half, didn't really look dangerous and only efforts I remember second half were Neves flick up and volley, and his free kick. Not good enough going forward.

As good a player as Hoever looks like he will become, playing right wing isn't his position. Cutrone came on way too late also.

I generally try and sit in the positive camp, but no positives to take from tonight. Saturday is a massive game now, not because of it being the BCD, because we need a victory.

We need a striker, and bloody quick. Im looking down the table, and starting to worry. Pull the stops out and get Diego Costa. Were heading into trouble after this performance.

If someone offered me a button that would enable me to fast forward to the summer I would press it, right now.
Nah. I’m quite interested in the development bit. It will never all be rosy. This is the bit where we get (hopefully, surely, etc) to see Nuno earn his money.

plus, it makes the bit where we are good again even sweeter. Part of the reason I’ve enjoyed the Nuno years so far is because I know we as fans have earned it after some of the shit we’ve watched (most way longer than before I was even born).

Thought we played ok, probably the better team overall.......but, keep conceding shit goals, especially from set pieces + don't take our chances = crap results. Not sure why it took so long to get Cutrone on.
Anyone saying we can't keep blaming injuries is being disingenuous, if you leave players the quality of Raul, Boly, Traore and Jonny out of any team, they're gunna struggle and thats got nothing to do with our transfer business

Watching Wolves play shit when you expect nothing is very different to watching us play poorly after finishing 7th in the premier league.

Pretty good first half, but we just have so few goals in us that that kind of sucker is always a possibility.

Not too downhearted as I was encouraged by MGW and Hoever (although he was the wrong sub for me, if that's not too contradictory) and some of our first half interplay, but we need a win from somewhere. Good to see Neves on the scoresheet btw

The main thing I find frustrating is the lack of any kind of adventure there were times when players made runs and RAN and Semedo were open and if we had the ball in the middle of the park that's where it stayed ( usually sideways or backwards afterwards) we did try a few early on but Neves's radar was well off so we never bothered again

You know I love a bit of hyperbole 😉

In fairness mate I was talking in a wider sense. Wolves losing games is only part of it.

Any of Boly, Johnny, Podence, Jimenez, Traore could have made a big difference and we're missing the lot. These results can be hard to take but can't be surprising, really.
On the injuries front, I feel it's becoming an easy excuse, when actually we've been inconsistent and fairly toothless regardless of personnel this season.

Everton have only just got Digne and James back and are still missing Allan, DCL and Richarlison sat out most of the match.

Raul is an obvious miss, we have a transfer window open right now to try and get a remedy for that. Donk was supposed to be a big miss, he comes back and we still lose. Boly might not even be playing due to form even if he was fit.

I will accept that missing both Pod and Adama (although two weeks ago half the forum were talking about him being sold whenever he was mentioned) tonight was unfortunate, but we still had Neto and MGW and it was Nuno's decision to bring a FB on and leave Vitinha and Cutrone on the bench till the game had run away from us.

Fuck. How many times this season have we not deserved to lose, yet we have. Every game we don't get a point the teams below gain ground. If we carry on like this it won't be long before we are drawn into that relegation fight.

I thought we played some really decent football tonight, but playing an 18 year old on his own up top is literally killing us. Is Cutrone the answer? I don't know, but Fabio isn't, and won't be for a long while. Keep playing him and it will properly fuck us.

I get the injuries. We are running on u23's, and that is hard. With the players back we will be a lot better. But they are not, and we are struggling for even a point. The only people scoring are the defense and midfield!

Tonight Neves and Donk were really good. Hoever is going to be a great player. Neto was good until he got the knock. Hopefully he won't be another injury to add to the list.

Saturdays game has a new dimension to it. Can we even get a result against the shit? With the front players we have now? I don't even know. Really disappointed with tonight. Bollocks...

We can bemoan "but Raul" but if we know we're invariably going to score less we've got to stop gifting teams shit, avoidable goals. We're powderlpuff at both ends of the pitch so focus on the one which we can actually fucking influence.

Also, Silva has got to be protected and pulled off. It was obvious that he was blowing up twenty minutes before he was hooked, leaving him on is damaging for him and Cutrone because it gives Cutrone less time to influence the game. I'm not sure he touched the ball in his 13 minutes?

Our midfield was sound, Neves had a great game and I think MGW had a really good hour but again he was tiring and rightfully pulled. Think he'll get even better in coming games.

Not the end of the world but some big concerns which can't be laid at the Raul/injuries door.

The future is bright that much is clear.

We`ve got 18 and 19 year old players that doesn`t look out of their depths playing in the PM.

I don`t understand what is the strenght of Silva though. He is neither fast, strong, or a good header. What did the scouting departement see in him?

Form is atrocious at the moment which I’ll give some leeway considering the injuries, regardless of that pressure is starting to build.
We’ve developed a bad habit of losing tight matches or losing games that we really shouldn’t.
You can’t keep conceding first and hoping to get something out of a game. Having said that we reacted well and we’re the better side first half.
Second half we got progressively worse but Everton did very little either. Comes back to the point of losing matches you really shouldn’t, unfortunately it happens when we are so poor from set peices.
Neves is way above anybody in the side with his performances levels doesn’t deserve to be in a side that’s in such bad form.
If injured players don’t return soon it’s going to be a long end to the season.
we have good patches in games but not enough to win games.
Raul missing is proving to be humongous now, yes his form wasn’t great prior to injury but he creates such a different focal point.
It’s unfair to expect Fabio to a similar job and it’s proving needs time away from the firing line.

Get Josh King in - we need a forward that can play across the line.
