Wolves 1-3 Man City - Verdict Thread

You haven't noticed people mentioned Saiss howler? Think you need to re read the thread. Its was a terrible bit of defending, but he recoved really well and was excellent after that

Vinagres decision making going forward needs work no doubt, but he needs games imo. Marcal is a very good defender but not really a wb imo, rarely gets over the half way line

Eh? I didn't say I hadn't noticed people mentioning it. I don't need to re-read the thread, I was on it.

My point was that a third CB alongside Boly and Coady is as much of a key upgrade area as RWB was, for Nuno as well as fans I imagine. So it'll get brought up when he makes such a high-profile, avoidable mistake. Just like it would if it was Doc.

And how would someone reacting to that mistake know that he'd go on to recover? We're not psychic, we're talking about what's actually happening

I don't know why after every game a clutch of people have to bemoan the matchday thread. I think you're expecting something from it you're never gonna get. Everyone's tense and emotional unless it's a 3-0 romp, for a start, wish we'd stop treating that like a crime, or insinuating people are 'jerks'. It's hardly like it's full of people clamouring to sack Nuno, drop Raul or jettison Fosun
Because no one would but there are acceptable target, you can slag off Saiss, Vinagre, Podence and Netto with impunity, as eluded on here I don't think Vinagre was nearly as bad as people were saying but on the matchday thread he should never play again, shouldn't be near the team.....really ?

Maybe you should get the mods to put a list of 'acceptable targets' as a sticky post at the top of the forum.

You're now saying Saiss is an 'acceptable target', but your last post insinuated that anyone criticising him was a 'jerk'? Which is it?

Apart from 'that' tackle Saiss was fine. I don't believe an urgent upgrade is required. I think Marcel was brought in primarily to cover until Jonny returns and then provide backup, no more. Wether we are interested in another more balanced LWB I can't say. I am assuming that Semedo will be here before the weekend and then we're sorted there. Should be good to go for the season then. But another player with experience and not very old for any of the weaker positions would be cool

Sorry mate but you said (in context of the Saiss mistake) "if Doc had a howler that led to a goal, it would have been mentioned" which sounds to me like you think Saiss got away with no criticism. We'll have to agree to disagree, imo Saiss is the last area we need to upgrade

I object in the strongest terms to including a pre season friendly when kids took penalties as part of a 3 game winning streak over City[emoji3]

You may of course

I bet Guardiola remembered it.

I forgive Saiss his brainfart because that is his game. He will give you a brain fart 1 game in three that will usually get him a yellow and an unnecessary freekick wide left or occasionally its a pen and that was last night. After that he was fine. Vinagre didn't offer anywhere near enough but again, its City so thats why he was on the bench. You cant help injuries and thats why squad depth can be key. We dont really have an omnicompetent James Milner type player who could do a decent job in four positions and we are unlikely to get one or work with a huge squad so Vinny needs to step up and perform as he is going to be needed.

Honestly finding to difficult to be over critical about last night.

Yes, our first 45 mins were were dreadful but the majority of that was caused by Man City. On and off the ball they were out of this world. The movement, the pressing etc just stopped our game and when you spend that amount on the back foot, mistakes happen and the decison making goes out of the window.
Genuinly feared for us in the 2nd half as I have seen plenty of teams just give up when City are in that mood and get destroyed 5 or 6, so delighted with how we responded and got back in the game and to be annoyed we missed the chance to take a point is not something I expected at 9pm last night.

My entire post was in response to Paul. I think my meaning is obvious (not 'it didn't happen', rather 'don't be surprised it happened'), but I can't be bothered to break it down anymore. I don't think he got away with no criticism, as I criticised him myself! But I guess I need to re-read the thread :icon_rolleyes:

I don't understand your last comment. The last area we need to upgrade?? In the starting line-up??

Agree with all that, we usually give a good account of ourselves (at the very least) in most of these kind of match-ups, on balance we didn't disgrace ourselves, they're a top side

You know exactly what I'm saying so why are you doing this ?

One of those 'what could have been' games.

City were magnificent in the first half. Impossible to deal with them when they're like that. Absolutely brain dead from Saïss to give the penalty away. I have no idea what he thinks he's doing there.

We played really, really well second half but just couldn't make the most of our chances apart. Bloody brilliant goal by Raúl.

Can someone explain how Sterling wasn't booked for his early dive please. That was the most obvious and easiest dive call a ref will get and nothing

Yeah, if he think it's a goal kick he has to book him. Bottled it.

Yeah, if he think it's a goal kick he has to book him. Bottled it.

Yep, and the thing is if he does book him it actually makes reffing the game easier as other players will be less likely to try and con him with a dive later in the game.

Yeah, if he think it's a goal kick he has to book him. Bottled it.

As VAR will have looked at that surely the message should be "No penalty as he dived" and then a yellow has to be shown.

Just incompetent all round then

I'm not doing anything, I'm reacting to what you wrote! Which sounded mildly totalitarian tbh

You're entitled to think whatever you like about Saiss or Vinagre, so is everyone else. Talk of 'acceptable targets' is not on, and if I called people who disagreed with me 'jerks' I'd be getting a pile-on right about now.

I'm actually not unhappy with much of the Wolves game, but sometimes having a discussion with some of you guys is like pulling teeth

If VAR was involved, a yellow can't be given..?
