Wolves 1-5 Man City: Verdict Thread

Sa couldn't do a lot to prevent the goals. 6
Boly was garbage, looks like he's in a world of his own. 2
Jonny out of position. 5
Coady did ok considering the hand he was dealt imo.6
Moutinho not up to pace against a team like city. 4
Neves invisible. 5
Dendoncker poor, lucky to score considering he sidefooted it straight at the defender and keeper. 3
Ait Nouri did ok, 6
Chiqhinho did very well. 7
Neto tried but still not up to speed. 6
Jimenez did his best but doesn't look like scoring these days. 6

Seems harsh criticising when they are way better than us but we did make it easy for them.

Defensively a shambles. Never seen a back 3 (or whatever it was) have so many holes in it. False 9/ their rotations just causing chaos. It could have been anything. Neves and Moutinho just had rings round them and the back 3 playing on 3 different lines leaving simple straight runs/balls being in on our goal.

Fair enough we gave it a go but potentially getting humiliated is not a good look. It could have been 8.

Oh and on the dynamic midfielder, today that was a big miss. Often all 3 of them had chances to take a touch and drive to take a few players out the game and beat the press. But instead a backward pass just plays straight into their hands and we end up giving away the ball. You’re almost better off just taking a risk there as youll probably at worst win a FK rather than giving it away nearer your own goal by playing backwards into the press and 5 or 6 of their players running at your goal

I think thats pretty generous to Coady who was at least partly responsible for 3 of the goals by being suked out of position far too easily. He's not really a defender though. And pretty easy on Jonny who looked for most of the game like he couldn't be arsed. Not a very professional display from him. Both of these 2 shouldn't get higher than a 3.

For all I love Neves and Moutinho, I've said for 2 seasons now that we lack someone with pace, power and dynamism in midfield. When teams have good movement and pace in midfield areas we have been lacking an answer to that for some time. Not a knock on Neves and Moutinho, who have other qualities, but we need some athleticism in the centre of the pitch.
That’s why you need a squad of players that has more than 3 potential starting centre mids who cover different profiles (not including cundle for obvious reasons)

We're just not all that good and they are more than decent. However, our lack of desire accounted for at least two of their goals. It's OK to lose to City. The are worthy champions elect. A fine side. But that lackadaisical approach to the first half, lost us the game. They could have and maybe should have scored more. Thankfully they didn't, although it somewhat papers over the cracks. A lot of players disappointed tonight - Coady (he's just not a CH), Jonny, Neves, Moutinho and Neto. Raul, RAN and the raw Chiqo tried hard. The subs ineffectual. Hwang is looking more and more a farmer's league player and Cundy brought on far too late. We need to raise things immeasurably against Norwich. The only dim light in the distant, is that this result makes it more likely that City, rather than Liverpool, win the title but that small compensation for a poor performance from the old gold, under the lights at Molineux. Fuck it.

Feel like his personal spokesperson here but to have donk as a 3 and he was ‘lucky’ with the goal is absolute rubbish. Raul scores that not a chance you’d be saying it was lucky

We’re shit. Without a change we’ll be in the bottom 3.
Good job we’ve only fallen fallen into this major rut with 12 games to go with points on the board!

Shambolic defensively.

I just can't fathom thinking we're playing Man City so let's have two players in that defensive line out of their natural positions.

Later on we had Neto and Chiquinho on the same side and nobody opposite? why?

We ended up going from a disorganised mess to an unbalanced disorganised mess.

Coady has had an absolute mare, he gets sucked in so easily and for a so called master organiser youd expect him to know better.

We lost what little focal point we had when Jimenez went off and we had Trincao up front with Hwang and Donk.

We got away with one tonight, it could've easily finished 8 or 9. It papers over the cracks unfortunately. As good as City are/were we did more them more than a few favours.

I think had we played in a more stubborn way we would still have lost by a couple of goals.
Did we make things easy for City hell yes, first 3 goals were due to some huge spaces for DeBruyne to run into don’t get me wrong the level of his finishing was off the charts.
The thing is the margin of defeat is surprising to no one most of us half of expected to be beaten heavily.
City were toying with us second half and could easily scored another 3/4 goals.
We look like we’ve got a bunch of players not enjoying their work currently.
I know it’s a dead rubber Sunday but Lage has to get a reaction even if he does he might be toast anyway.

Don't think there is anything controversial about saying it was lucky tbh it was a poorly hit shot down the centre of the goal. It should have been saved.

Gave it a really good go up until the 4th goal. A lot will criticise how open we were and i can see why but sometimes our midfield and back 3 couldn’t just keep up with the pace and that had nothing to do with how we set up, just look at De Bruyne run past Moutinho for his 4th. Don’t think it would have mattered what we did tonight KDB though was just on a different planet.

Should have had a penalty at 3-1 for Zinchenko on Chiquinho and if that’s given we probably go in at 3-2. Still don’t win but we’re in the game for a lot longer.

Again i’m much more positive than most on this forum at the moment, we’ve got some serious talent and with some additions who knows. I know most don’t think it will happen and i can see why but i’ll keep an open mind. Still don’t think we’ll be anywhere near relegation next year.

Who’s brainwave idea was it to knock it around at the back against a side that are past masters at the high press and winning the ball back in the opposing 3rd.
Heard a lot of people saying we showed some great endeavour, seriously? No we ran around a lot in an aimless fashion. As many have said that could’ve been an utter humiliating result but we escaped that more down to City missing some glaring chances.
Our players aren’t doing the basics well at all something that we did do under Nuno.

So lowered were my levels of expectation after Brighton I’m leaving thinking ‘well at least it wasn’t that bad’. I mean, there was some effort. But really, how did it come to this?

Enjoyed our goal. Reminded me of when we looked like we had some purpose. Chiquinho was good. Sa had a dodgier day with his boots. Thought the Neto penalty was a dead cert, but there we go.

M6 southbound closed to add to our misery.

We do have some serious talent just a shame he’s leaving this summer.

We've become so predictable it is painful to watch. Coady to CH, CH to WB, WB looks for ball down line which is generally blocked as opponents know that's what we do nearly every time. WB either plays ball down line anyway or plays ball inside to Neves/Moutinho who return ball to Coady or CH and repeat...

I thought RAN battled well until he ran out of steam after about 70 minutes, Chiquinho battled to the end, Moutinho looked like an old man chasing shadows tonight and Jonny is not a CH.

If they turn up on Sunday I can accept losing to probably the best club side in the world, but there's a few who need to step up a level. Hopefully Gomes will get a game.

City are obviously levels above us and when on form they are relentless and ruthless. I can't fault the effort of the boys but can absolutely criticise Lage tactics and game management which was terrible yet again.

Chiquinho was the obvious bright spot for us he was lively and unpredictable in a good way he looks a steal at £3M.

I'm definitely firmly in the get rid camp as I just don't think Bruno can take us forward or would trust him with recruitment (or get the best out of what Jorge will recruit for us).

Our form post Spurs is relegation form hopefully Fosun act which may seem ungrateful from the outside but we've had to endure some turgid shit since that game.

Agreed. Raul up against Fernandinho, he should have been getting loads of joy from the long ball. If he’s not going to get any joy against him in air then he isn’t going to get it from anyone in this league. Even the times we did hit it long we didn’t exploit that match up.

Fair enough you want to stick to your principles but you aren’t better than them at that. So take the matchup where you do have an advantage.
