Wolves 1 Newcastle 1 verdict thread

We’ve got to create more, basically! Plenty of possession but not enough threat to their goal. Not sure what putting Marcal on achieved. Then again, a freak free kick denied us the 3 points. I need to watch the game back
The marcel sub was really frustrating - he didn’t do anything wrong, but didn’t really achieve anything much other than being neat and tidy.

Ait Nouri must not have been ready to have not been brought on - but if he wasn’t ready to play 25 minutes, then why was he on the bench?

very frustrating as we were crying out for more from that left wing back position. I’d even have taken putting Neto there tbh.

I thought on occasions tonight we played some really good football in spells.
I do agree with the comments that the front 3 aren't gelling yet. I do think if they do, it'll be good thought.

Raul has started dropping too deep too frequently for me. Repeatedly he was in midfield, and semedo, neto, podence and dendoncker were ahead of him. Don't feel that is playing to his strengths tbh.

edit, also agree with DW, I was confused as to why we had 3 defenders on the subs bench.

I think we need to give Murphy a lot of credit with the goal.
The wall wasnt that bad... Rui was almost inviting a shot on the inside as it would need some serious swerve and I thought he would have had it covered.
We gambled and failed as Murphy hit that free kick perfectly and the main fuck up was Rui not stopping it at his near post
The whole purpose of the wall there is to stop that near post shot. There literally is no other reason for it. So for it to not to execute it’s simple role is a massive failing.

I know that.
The wall wasnt set up right but it also wasnt set up terrible.
My point is that Murphy had to put some serious bend on the shot to get it around the wall. Unfortunately for us he did but I would guess 9 times out of 10 he would put it wide

It’s pretty binary though isn’t it? Stop the near post shot - good, not stop it - bad! It’s not really an area where you think goal. The wall in that instance (where the shooting angle isn’t great) should pretty much rule out any attempt at goal. Going over or round the other side is catching practice for Rui. Instead allow him to go round, and it still goes in a foot inside the post showing how badly positioned it was!

He didn’t have to put that much bend on it and even then it’s a yard inside and Rui gets his hand to it. Now he is left footed so is he left handed? If so it’s his strong hand too. Nope that was a shit wall compounded by poor keeping especially given Ruis standards.

Frustrating that you knew what was going to happen as it has so often. Soft goal costs points shocker.

You're exaggerating there. It had plenty of bend for how close it was and it was only just inside the post. Rui couldn't get across quick enough and only got a hand to it once it was over the line.

It was terrible goalkeeping but the set up of the wall was even worse you shouldn't be able to see any of that side of the goal, it's specifically there to protect that side. Rui doesn't make too many mistakes so you can forgive the odd one but I am surprised a keeper of his quality and experienced has allowed that wall to be positioned like that.

He has form

That's a woeful comment TT. That isn't form that's one mistake 2 years ago.

I hazard a guess there's been a lot more walls set up since then that have blocked free kicks.

It wasn't meant to sound that way, as in he's a terrible keeper. I think he's been great, especially last season. Just pointing out we've seen that goal with that mistake before.

Only saw the 2nd half but base don that thought we played well (and ironically better than the last two wins).

Lost out on 2 points due to a poor refereeing decision and some out of character goalkeeping late on.

That just about sums it up in a nutshell....first half was controlled but a bit slow

I don't think he was a major problem, he just didn't seem himself (like against Leeds).

I like Traore more than most, but the crosses by definition can't be that brilliant if they aren't aimed at anyone!

That kind of wingplay from him doesn't often pay dividends with this Wolves team anyway, he's better off getting into the box himself and causing havoc or playing something low and hard , or even coming from a more central position, rather than the type of typical winger's cross that only Raul will benefit from (1 time out of 20).
If there is nobody in the box that his not his fault - it is down to our negative way of playing.
