Wolves 2-1 Brighton: Verdict Thread

Considering this was a nothing game, which showed in the first half, we played like our lives depended on it in the second. Credit all round, especially to R.A.N., Gibbs White, Traore, Silva . Jose should have played his last game for us now. Podence has got it, but something is not right at the moment, he will come good.

I'm not willing to give up on him. There's a good player in there and that left side is his best position.
Agreed, as i said in match thread it feels like recency bias. He's been poor since he came back from injury but the Arsenal and Chelsea goals, the Fulham and Sheff U assists were all really good and all this season. He's having a crisis of confidence at the moment, i think (hope!) he'll come back to good form next season.

I think my problem with Podence is I'm just not sure where his best position is. He isn't a CAM - MGW is far superior to him there - and he hasn't done much out wide either.

I think he'll be a good squad player and bench option, but not a starter for me.

I disagree. I think Podence has far fewer impactful performances in all his time at the club than Traore has had over a similar time frame. He has some skill, but he makes too many poor decisions, gives the ball away loads, and rarely contributes through assists. Plus he's a great big fanny who throws himself on the floor and play acts too much. I wouldn't be at all sad to see him go.

If you could upgrade on say Saiss, Dendonker, Podence you wouldnt grumble if those three were your back up next season..

I’d agree with that. Delighted for MGW, clearly better as a 10 and running beyond Silva as well as technically very good when deeper. Doesn’t have the vision of Vitinha but if the little magician is in there too there’s no reason they can’t dovetail nicely.

I don’t see a space for Pod at all and I’d be testing Burnley’s resolve for McNeill in the summer to play with RAN on the left.

Agree with all of this. McNeil with Neto and Traore as our wing options - with Podence in the squad - would be super.

I doubt we'll be buying 2 really good CB's hoping for 1 and then Boly/Coady/Saiss fill the other roll(s)

I doubt we will buy 1 good ready to go CB. We will absolutely buy a (probably very good for their age) young CB with plenty of potential who will develop alongside Coady or Boly.

Good win for me. They all showed character in the second half in spades. Really pleased for MGW. That will boost his confidence.
Traore is a super sub. He's miles better coming on for 30 mins than for a whole game as others have alluded.
I thought Silva had a really good game too. He's obviously been working out a bit, and is now holding the ball up well. The run he made when Dunk got sent off was superb. Really got past his man better than i've seen him do in the past.
Jose needs to book his ticket back to Spain.

Yes, it was against 10 men, but how many times do we see the team not able to break down defences in the past.
Makes the Sunday a little better!

If you are going to do young then they may as well bring back Dion Sanderson to learn. For me it needs a ready made CB.

By ready to go I mean we won't sign someone like Dunk or Tarkowski. We'll probably sign someone like Leite.

Boly could, don’t think Coady can.
I'd love a Dias style player plus a Dunk but just can't see it happening so we have to use what we've got. Can't rely on Boly for a whole season, bit injury prone, has had some off days this season and he'll be away in Africa.

Does anyone know why Maupay lost his shit at the end of the game to get his red card?

I think he said something to the ref, and the ref sent him off for being a massive twat
Yeah but he was clearly losing it about something that went on during the game, with Coady I think, I'm just not sure what it was.

I mean he definitely said something to the ref, but don't think anyone's said why

I'm assuming it's just general beration about the earlier red or some call he didn't like or some other nonsense
