Well he looked perfectly fine when he finally got off his arse and jogged back across the pitch the next time the ball came near Newcastle's defence. I don't think he was any more hurt than Sa would've been but he stayed down far longer and got a tiny percentage of the flak.

Sa left his goal unguarded for Hendrick to strike (well) into an empty net, Raul was time wasting and didn't risk us conceding a goal, do you really think the two deserve the same level of criticism?

Well he didn't time waste very well, the ball was in play the entire time he sat there.

They were both doing the exact same thing, feigning an injury, but one is in a position where there's little margin for error and the other has the greatest margin for error.

Maybe but that one on Raul was a clear foul whereas the Sa one wasn’t. And as discussed there are some clever differences in scenario!

In fairness, Sa is catching more flak because his attempt at cheating has literally cost us a goal.

Granted, there's more blame than just that to go around, but even with Ruben's mistake, we don't concede from that situation if Sa gets the fuck up and gets on with it.

People have often used the principle of Sa's action, feigning injury or cheating in some people's terminology, as the reason for their disgust. Yet we have another player doing the same thing, to a greater extent in my opinion, and getting almost zero criticism.

The reality, as I see it anyway, is people are just pissed off because it ended up with a goal and so they're piling in with the principled view as a thin veil over their true annoyance. That's why no-one cares that Jimenez has done it, nothing bad happened as a result. No-one would care about Sa doing it either if the ref had stopped the game for him to get treatment.

No, i don't think that's true. Certainly not in my case, my issue with Sa here is that he made a fucking stupid decision to stay down (at first), that cost us a goal.

Raul's decision had little to no effect on us, and certainly didn't come with the possibility of us conceding a goal like Sa's decision.

I'd be willing to bet that if Sa isn't so far out of the 6 yard box, Hendrick doesn't take the shot in the first place.

I'll trust you to hold me accountable if I let another player of ours get away with that kind of BS. It pissed me off when Brentford did it, it pisses me off when we do it. I can get behind certain sorts of shithousing, just not this one.

What a nonsense. I can’t see anyone taking some kind of ethical line, just a logic one. I’d expect any forward isolated and with their team under pressure to go down if they feel significant contact (let alone subject to the swipe that I did for once have a good view of). Regardless, If it’s 50:50 for getting the decision then it’s a risk worth taking given the highly unlikely downside. It’s coached to players when they take the ball to the corner, obviously (do we have to say this?!). Who in football would give the same advice to a keeper, even if you had a 90% chance of getting the decision? The ball is rolling away in front of an unguarded net - simply no one in the game suggests trying to win a decision at that point in time. Ever! Get up if you have the slightest hope of doing so and get between the sticks. It’s not ‘an option’ any more than facing the wrong way when standing on the line and hoping the ball hits you on the arse is an option. What parallel universe is this where there is some weird kind of equivalence with outfield players acting? Furthermore, this can be completely abstracted from what you make of Sa as a keeper who I’ll reiterate looks brave, a good stopper and with excellent distribution. The comparison to a forward feigning injury up the other end of the pitch is stretching a point to say the least.
