I'm glad you're so confident! Not like we haven't had any bullshit against us from refs/assistants/VAR when a goal 'shouldn't have been given'
I certainly am confident, as the ref gave a free kick and everything :D

A lot of confirmation bias either way on here.
I agree his style helps us play higher up the pitch, although since the last International break that's not been as high as before. He does also have some bizarre moments, not sure if it was as obvious unless you are in the North Bank but his positioning against Brentford when they hit the bar was weird, no idea where the goal was, as was his behaviour on Saturday for their goal.

Outside of that made some decent saves, very good distribution, stone cold cost 1 goal. Jury is out for me.
This is fair. I think the jury is still out because he’s barely had anything to do. This is a combination of it being stopped at source by claiming crosses or playing sweeper keeper and the team generally restricting the amount of saves he’s had to make.

It's not as if saving Hendrick's shot was guaranteed any way, even if he'd have been in position. It was drilled in hard and low off the post. Sa probably wouldn't have been able to get down in time to it any way.

I mean, it's highly unlikely but he might have, or he might not have. But it was no 100% guarantee that he cost us a goal. In fact if he'd have gotten up a split second later then the ball would have hit him as he ran back across.

Neves should still have booted it out.

He didn't know if Sa was injured or not. Fannying about with it in the edge of the 18 yard box with your goalie on the floor is very poor.

Fannying about with it on the edge of the box like he did with a fit and able goalie is still very poor.

Of course, but it's now circular and boring.
Sa should have got up straight away or stayed down, Neves should have put it into Row Z, Kilman also could have done better than trying to hook it away. 4 days later, nothing has changed

So what else do we talk about? Adama didn't really play
I'll give you a thought. The first 3 games we played with a certain style, the last 4 we haven't. In between that was the transfer window closing. Did Bruno play the first 3 games thinking this is my identity, we will live with the growing pains knowing we'll put another couple of players in, but I've drilled the rest of the team and then abondon it when Jeff let him down for one that would get the best out of what he had?

I think that may have played a role, but I think more than anything Bruno will have known that 0 from 9 was not a record that Fosun would be patient with, regardless of the style played.

The only reason Hendrick scored is because Sa ran past it trying to get back in the goal. If he's in a normal position it's an easy save and if he were Hendrick wouldn't have hit it.
All that is pie in the sky. You have no idea what Hendrick would have done. It opened up for a shot regardless.

The point is people are stating the unpredictable and unknown as fact.

We can reasonably assert that were Sa in position, the chance for Hendrick would become much more difficult, no? You're correct that he may still have scored but the odds surely would have gone down drastically.

He had an open goal when it fell to him.

Otherwise there just is no way he'd have had a shot, and if he did he wouldn't have scored.

Not sure why there's this desperation to defend Sa, it was his fault.

It's because he's so hot. It plays with peoples' minds.

Shit, I just hope he never shaves. I have a feeling that beard is putting in a lot of work.

People shoot from that position all the time.

Yes I think there's definitely an element of that. I also think he just wanted the points on the board and was willing to sacrifice his principles to get them. Nuno being here 4 years might give the impression that the owners aren't trigger happy but I think he might have got the bullet had we lost to Southampton and Newcastle, I think he thought the same.

The one thing that is a fact is that we’ll never know if he’d have hit it or not if the keeper wasn’t lying down out of his goal when he looked up. There is no split test. At the time, and watching again various times, it seems highly likely to me he only hit it (and did he hit it well!) as he looked up and saw the keeper out of position. It also would seem rather likely. That’s just my view of course. Everything else on this has been said and my only view is regards the non-equivalence of keepers staying down outside the sticks compared to e.g. strikers in the corner.

Style of play is really interesting. The change IS really striking isn’t it? The Brentford, uhm, thing something of an outlier between two completely different performances. I’m struggling to work it out to be honest! Someone will doubtless enlighten me.

The one thing I don’t think, in my view, is what would normally be the obvious explanation: We don’t look like we’ve become attritional or applying some kind of low block to grind out results - maybe we have and it’s too subtle for me. Frankly we’ve just looked a bit slower and less dynamic across the pitch - to me. It feels like we’ve given the opposition more chances to score, not less. They didn’t take them so there we go. Of course I’m delighted with the results, and 3 excellent /neat goals. Yet I don’t think we’ve deserved the wins recently any more than we deserved the defeats earlier. The second goal on Saturday was one that really broke the mould of the game at that point in time by one piece of inspiration from Raul. We didn’t seem to have any pattern of play that was going to open them up otherwise. Not sure what to expect next really, but hoping for the best and there are reasons for optimism.
