Wolves 2 -3 QPR Verdict thread.

On the we lack width debate, worth noting that both our goals came from balls coming in from a wide position, from Henry, the sole wide player on our team.

Which is why it's so infruiating that there's not a wide option for 75% of the match.

I can't even work out what he's trying to do for the third. Straight from the Taibi school of goalkeeping.

Surely it took a deflection on its way to goal??!! Speaking as someone who enjoys playing in goal, he started to his left and then had to readjust to his right. Deflection? Swerve? If not it was bloody awful.

Didn't seem like a deflection at the time. I think he was trying to second guess the direction of the shot, got it wrong and left himeself too much adjusting to do.

The formation clearly works. It doesn't work for 90.

I don't think it does at all. Looked even worse in the second half when we bring on a penalty box striker and proceed to give him absolutely zero service in that area. I can't see what positives it's bringing to us at all. We played a pretty standard 4-4-2 after Afobe signed last season and although it left us a bit open at times the points return was very good, as was the number of goals scored and chances created. We have now signed Coady to bolster the midfield so getting played through should be less of an issue. But we've ripped it up and gone with a formation which blunts our attacking threat and makes us more vulnerable defensively, it's terrible.

I was stood pretty much behind it and I didn't see a deflection. He just fucked it up.

Bringing ALF on in that position was truly shit. He played deep to let Afobe play up top (which was a reverse from the first half when Afobe was deep). Didn't seem to suit ALF's game at all and he was man marked out of the game by Karl Henry, who had a brilliant second half.

Waste of a substitution.

We absolutely battered them for 40 mins. Is that in spite of the formation? In which case I feel you're being harsh

I'm really hoping Ojo can get up to speed because Edwards on the left is torrid. He's best behind a lone striker when there are 4 other midfielders to cover his aimless flapping.

Must be easy to combat if it's only effective for less than half a match.

Wouldn't say we battered them at all, we were miles on top but that's because they were five yards off the pace. How many saves did Green make?

I'm not a fan of the formation either.

It seems to put a lot of pressure on the fullbacks to provide width and an attacking outlet and neither of our fullbacks seem to be very effective in doing this

Iorfa's crossing has a long way to go and Golbourne's attacking threat seems to have gone backwards.

I didn't think he was overly chuffed when I saw it live either and at first I wondered if it had been ruled out as his reaction was almost downbeat.

I'm not convinced the players like this new system at all.

I thought that upon seeing the goal too.
Though up until then QPR seemed to think it was a pre season friendly and it had the atmosphere of one too..(being able to hear the players shout etc)

QPR gave us far too much respect in the first half and sat right off us. It was evident at the start of the 2nd half that they were no longer going to do so, hence why both there goals came from us losing possesion in our own defensive third of the pitch. The decision to play Le Fondre behind Afobe baffled me last night and in is still doing so at this very moment, at one point when we were losing he was back tackling on the edge of his own penalty area.

From reading this and my own thoughts from pre season and Sunday I think KJ to over thinking things:

A formation which we don't have the personnel to fit - full backs that can't cross, a right footed midfield player on the left, who wanders everywhere leaving us open, not having pace or movement in central midfield to make it work

Replacing a keeper that didn't need to be replaced

Bringing a box player on as a number 10, which he never has been and won't be.

We just needed a left winger, yes he wouldn't have been as good as Sako in all likelihood, but having Afobe for a full season would have offset that.

442 with Ojo or sign someone else please Ken, or 451 and Edwards behind Afobe. Stick to what works and stop over complicating things, do that we'll be Top 6.

I was being facetious admittedly, as I actually though we looked really threatening vs Hull and was impressed how quick we were turning defence into attack. But once we lose our shape and composure, we look wide open. Thought our defending on the goals last night was poor but we are only 3 games in
