Wolves 2 -3 QPR Verdict thread.

Watching the ermmm highlights...Wow, just how easy does Phillips glide past Golbourne for that 2nd goal.

I think Young Wolf has it right. After everyone critiicising Kenny for leaving it too late to bring on Le Fondre I was not in the least surprised when the substitution was made at half time, Dicko hadn't been very effective. I think we were still confident at that time. I was surprised when Le Fondre was put in the number 10 role and Afobe went right up front I think we lost out there, it was the wrong way round. I was amazed at Martinez letting both the 2nd and 3rd goals in. Hause was stupid to needlessly lose the ball in the lead up to the 3rd goal. I was right behind the line of the 3rd goal and the ball did not swerve, was not deflected, and was not right in the corner. I assumed Martinez was unsighted but it never have been let in. With our first 30 minutes dominance we should have won very easily.

My mistake - It was the second goal that I was right behind and talking about.

having seen the goals i think you have to forgive the second as the rangers player ran right across the ball in front of him, but left it.

the third, fuck me!

KJ seems to have a strange liking for playing a striker deep who should be in the penalty area. Such as Leon, sagbo, Graham. Not that any of these strikers were any good mind..

It seems odd to me that we would play Afobe up top and ALF deep, the natural balance of the front two is clearly the other way round

Round pegs for round holes for me. Play to your strengths. ALF has never been nor will ever be a number 10. He is a poacher/ finisher. Edwards plays in the hole but he will never be nor has ever professed to be left sided winger. If KJ felt Dicko was off the pace he could have brought Oji on and stuck him left side and Afobe up top leaving Dave in the Hole. At least that would have given balance. We are surprisingly average defensively and that comes from spine changes. Coady is a good addition but still a change as is Hause and Martinez. Add ALF to that spine 2nd half last night and the whole of it is not used to playing together. Alf on for Afobe for the last 15 minutes and RVLP on for Henry would have been three better subs in my humble opinion and would have kept us on the front foot. Still onwards and upwards. I dont have my coaches badges KJ does. Early days and I suppose its a learning curve for our younger players too.

Im not VLP's biggest fan, but for just a short period with him on we looked pretty decent. He attacked a fair few times and played in Afobe for one glorious chance.. Maybe gets his chance to start Saturday.

And you could tell how ? The camera panned across when he had everybody on top of him...
I saw him score with my own eyes and he didn't celebrate. There was a small show of appreciation towards the South Bank when his name was chanted once the ball was back in the centre circle.

Yeah, he was fairly bright when he came on. Although Henry would have much more impact himself if we actually played him wide.

I noticed that as well actually he was completely dead pan when it hit the back of the net, no emotion whatsoever

Yeah he didn't celebrate at all, it was odd. Great finish though.

McDonald was the first player off the pitch at the end as well. Just walked straight off on his own as soon as the whistle went.

I'd say he can fuck off but with Evans going out on loan I doubt he's going anywhere.

That, or he's offski soon and we have a replacement lined up.

He's probably still a pissed off, tbh. Petulance doesn't really get you anywhere though. He should be building on that goal and proving to KJ he's worth what he's asking for when they re-enter contract talks.

I feel some of you are being very harsh here.

They are mate because everyone wants wingers. The formation works and it will work for ninety pretty soon, it wasn't the formation that cost us and neither was it that QPR figured us out we just stopped doing basics and thought it was easy (not helped bu the crowd ole'ing after 30 mins). It would help with more modern full backs who get forward and can cross but we are more than a threat with the way we are playing.

I can't believe people are saying we don't look a threat when everyone pretty much said we were guilty of poor finishing against Hull and last night we scored twice and Afobe had 2 excellent chances in the second half and really should have scored at least one of them. Austin's goal was quality but apart from that the only chance QPR had was when Martinez saved with his feet.

Id rather we iron out the chinks and yes it will take time, but you saw from the first 40 minutes what Jackett is trying, and we were in awe with it for that period. Im backing Jackett to get this system right. Id rather like I said sort it now then later on into the season. We have wingers in Henry, VLP, Ojo and we'll play with wingers for some periods of the season. Wallace is another major factor when fit.

For that half an hour the football we were excellent, as we were for most of the game against Hull. I like the style but we need to find the balance. The first goal came (after a foul too mind) from a switch of play where Edwards was on the wrong side of the pitch defensively, and when the cross came in and Hause cleared it Coady (who had to cover the left for Edwards) wasn't there to pick up the second ball and Faurlin/Luongo swept it out to Phillips.

I'm not saying that is the direct cause for the goal, there are several in fact, but it leaves us open defensively and that is something we need to work on to improve.

The other reason I'm a little bit worried is that in two important positions in this to create goals in this formation (the right and left sided attacking midfielders) neither of the two in the current eleven are good enough for where we want to be, even in their best positions, IMO. I'm hopeful Wallace can come in and be a good player, I really rate him, but I'm worried that we will try to rely on Edwards again.
