Wolves 2-3 West Ham: Verdict Thread

He had a good game apart from the goal he was at fault for. 😉
Same every week lately.

Off the top of my head, Palace away, Soton at home, Arsenal at home, Liverpool at home, tonight, Villa at home.

Very worrying.

Play it differently then!

How we play in a 5 has been consistently offensively horrendous and defensively horrendous when we’re not playing a back 7 (we should have conceded 8 in the reverse fixture).

Play the fucking 5 differently! We haven’t, we don’t, the 4 has shown promise.

There’s more to football than what some numbers on a piece of paper say.
The numbers on the league table are what matter.

We need him to come out of the blocks firing next season for sure. He's a big investment for us at the peak of his career.

Unfortunately I also think he's the kind of player who'll have fans on his back too if he doesn't improve

I think he is spot on with this, he has to take responsibility for how we set up for when the ball turned over. I'll have to watch it back but it felt like Semedo AND RAN were both high at the same time when we should probably just bring one inside, to have five behind the ball and five in front.

I know this'll sound silly but with zonal marking do the midfielders only chase players up to a point, for the first two goals both Donk and Neves stopped chasing their player as soon as they got near the box ?
My understanding is zonal marking only applies to set pieces. Elsewhere on the pitch you are passing the player on. That's supposed to be because they are better placed to take them or you are covering another threat. What Donck did for the first goal was neither

We have to find a cure for this before Friday, im starting to worry again. I think we nee two more wins, as35 points arent going to be ehough. Neto had an off night, im sure we will see a different performance on Friday. Fulham can be physical, thats why the defence needs overhauling before Friday, and if Coady plays like that again he can forget thr Euros.

And we’ve been a lower midtable team all season in all systems 🤷🏻‍♂️

We aren’t very good. The manager needs to sort it
Yes. But that doesn’t mean chucking away what has worked so well for us in the previous three seasons

If we play 4 at the back we will concede goals. O.K. If we concede goals we need to score more goals to win or the same number of goals to draw. Where are the goals going to come from? I get the Jose is crap thing now, he`s crap. One positive, Fabio scored.

Pretty much what DW says caught between a rock and a hard place at the moment.
Players just aren’t there to make 4 at the back work. Yes it’s prettier on the eye but it’s also very fool hardy to continue with until suitable players are bought in.
We’ll concede more than once on Friday with the same approach any side at this level afforded that much space will score goals.
Whilst we looked better second half West Ham sat back more as the game progressed

This is just basics though isn’t it? Which is bizarre that a top flight coach is setting up the team so badly.

You might get away with it if you’re Barcelona and you Chuck your FBs high because your players are better than them and even if you lose it your going to suffocate them straight away that they can’t hurt you.

Wolves players aren’t very good and give the ball away, then a dreadful press, then an immobile DM, then hopeless CBs. Recipe for disaster.

Think he just tried to stop them at source and maybe expected too much of the two defensive midfielders. I thought Donck would be able to do it but he really struggled in that first half an hour.

The next 5 games should all be winnable, but six points from them will see us ok, but can someone tell that to our defence please.

Well we were supposed to be transitioning the first third of the season? We weren’t. We were doing the same shit worse.

He then tried to change it and bar some awful set piece defending and Semedo brain farts we’d have beat (or certainly not lost) Saints, Villa, Brighton, Spurs and Albion. Factor in we were also down like 6 first teamers at the time.

He didn’t/doesn’t need to change the 5, he just needed to play it in a completely different way. He obviously felt he couldn’t or he would have done it...
