Having re watched the highlights I don't think Semedo does anything wrong for the 2nd. Lingard flicks it past him but Semedo is easily getting to the ball before Lingard. I think it's Donk who doesn't track Masuaka into the box who picks up the loose ball.

it says he didn't trust another combination to be solid enough defensively so he tried to outscore them, which as you pointed out in XG world we did. So then it comes down to poor finishing and defensive mistakes

That concerns me a bit though, trying to play a different formation with less than 24 hours prep time will leave you vulnerable to defensive mistakes.

It says to me that we are back to where we were this time last season and there are only 14 players or so he trusts or at least trusts to start

I know it's de rigueur to blame Donk for everything wrong on the pitch but you don't think leaving Fornells on his own in the centre of the box might of not helped ?

Without being a cock and unaware of your workload could you not make it longer, you go into some excellent analysis but I'd love to read more.
ps This is not a criticism by the way :)
Nah, its perfect as is, any longer would be an issue for those of us with the attention span of a gnat 😀

Yeah, my work schedule has largely got in way lately (and turnaround to get this done by tomorrow’s game) but it should be a bit clearer in next few weeks so I can go into a bit more detail!
