Wolves 2-3 West Ham: Verdict Thread

I think RAN was blowing out of his arse tbh, nothing more than that.

Was one of Jose's better games, his hold up play was generally decent and he did get into a couple of decent positions, but I wouldn't pay two million for him, never mind twenty. Vitinha always impresses me tbh, he's a lovely footballer. I think if we had a genuine ball winning DM, we could look great in a narrow 433

The last 20 mins or so we basically just played with all the players in a straight line. No one was dropping into spaces to receive the ball. Was very easy to defend against.

Which was infuriating, because the one time Fabio peeled off and Neto actually made a defense splitting pass, we scored.

Vitinha was buzzing about and was constantly looking up to pass the ball forward, but just didn't have any movement ahead of him, so he ended up having to go sideways instead.

Vininha looks a good prospect player, he has more than looked up for the quality of the Prem, so I would be looking to sign him. With Jonny out and despite liking glimpses of RAN, I'd maybe be looking to not make his deal permanent and instead look to push that towards an alternative lwb/lb.

If it's clear he is developing and improving in training though I obviously trust that if they go ahead.

On the rest of the game I actually thought Traore looked much better fitting into the overall style of the poor retention and recycling of possession yesterday, does anyone have any stats for him or have I imagined that? I get that is basics, but feel like they were basics you don't always get from him, superb from him for the assist.

It's all very well to say that it's individual errors that are costing us, but there has to be some correlation involved. The setup is leaving certain players exposed and this puts them under pressure for long enough that they make mistakes and get punished.

There's merit in that, but I don't think it applies yesterday.
Donck didn't fail to trip Lingard up, Semedo didn't get outskilled by Lingard on the goal line and Patricio didn't let a fairly weak shot in at the near post because there wasn't 3 centre halves

I was more thinking of the two CMs roaming forwards too often leaving huge gaps in front of the defence. Every goal started with exploiting that.

Yep, the mentality rather than the formation is what doesn't make sense to me.

We could have a more adventurous mentality with 343 but we don't, and we could have a less adventurous mentality with 4231, but we don't.

I didn't bother posting last night. Too pissed off with the result to be honest.
What can you say. Defence who acted like waiters at the Ritz for 40 mins. Come in sir. Wine sir? Have a goal sir....
Pleased to see we didn't roll over, and at least gave them a run for it till almost the end, but that is just papering over the cracks.
What is worrying me is this has been happening all season, and i can't see it stopping until we get some different personel in defence and midfield. It shows how much we miss Boly and Jonny!

I did say in the match thread it would be a mistake to play 4 at the back in this game. As others have said if Antonio had have been on for the whole game i think it would have been more than 3 goals conceded.

For me Fulham is a must win game. And i don't think it's going to be a gimme either. Play like that first half and we'll be 3 down as sure as apples are apples. Some folksaying Fulham and Newcastle won't get x points. How do we know this? We have to take it out of their hands and keep it in ours. Win however we can, and get this season done.

I do see a problem in the summer. 1 year with no money earned is going to mean the kitty is bare. I'm sure Fosun are not going to just chuck a bunch of money in at this difficult financial time, particularly if we are buying the loan players. But boy do we need some personel!

I just hope the club can sort it out, or it will be a long season next year.

With a faster DM we should look at 4132 with Neves further forward. A decent centre forward will help as , although he held up play well he can’t finish for toffee.
Fantasy I know but if cr7 at 35 was playing last night we win 6 3.

I don't think it's pace at CM that's the problem. It's everyone being in attack and getting turned over.

If Neves and Donk are in attack then we need at least one full back in defence. Likewise, if both fullbacks are up then either Neves or Donk have to sit back a bit more.

Pace will obviously help, but positioning properly would help more.

Exactly, look where Lingard picked up the ball yesterday, he was beyond both Donk and Neves and only had Coady and Saiss in front of him, whilst Saiss and Coady did their Roger Johnson impressions, they didn't really have a lot of choice, because if Saiss had committed himself to a challenge and failed then it would have been Antonio and Lingard on just Coady.

What we got most wrong was not having a full back or one of Donk and Neves between Lingard and Saiss and Coady.

Wolves defence gave me a sleepness night last night. I know Nuno is angry, but he is such a nice guy, could he ever raise his voice at the team and show his anger ? Also it looks like Kilman is out of favour, what ever happened after he got the M.O.M. award at Leeds ?

I’ve only just caught up on the game. Why the fuck didn’t Donk just take Lingard out for the first and someone do it for the second? It literally happens to Traore 3 times a game why the hell wouldn’t we do that and just take the yellow? So unbelievably naive.

Nuno does a good impression of being a nice guy. I think the reality is a little different.

He's slow, a seriously odd shape, he makes a lot of errors and he doesn't use the ball very well at all.

He'll make a career but it'll be League One or below.
