Wolves 3-0 Everton: Verdict Thread

No one can turn a man like Traore can.

Traore can.

Trao... Trao... Trao...

Not quite like that anymore, not drastically moreso than the rest, IMO.

Also, not got a low center of gravity? Literally, what?

No, he doesn’t. He’s a powerhouse not a jinking in between players. Impossible to do that at his speed.

This is from the same person who said that Pedro Neto wasn't fast. Clearly not to be taken seriously.

If you say so...

Lots to praise today. Even before the penalty it felt better than the usual first-half performance. More energy, tried to be a bit more creative, and best of all we were creating some chances. To me it didn't feel like Podence has totally clicked with the rest of the forwards or got used to our style of play yet; not that big a surprise hasn't had that much time with the team, but it seemed to add something to our game. He cut inside rather than outside and a nice bit of skill won us the penalty which was dispatched excellently.

Back three was superb throughout, Boly especially. Thought the wing-backs were quite (Doc didn't do much at all I think?) but we were so dominant in the middle Everton couldn't get the ball out into any threatening area. Neves was phenomenal and Dendoncker all over - added the threat from set pieces which is what we tried to do against Arsenal and failed. Good delivery by Neto! Think I was hesitant to criticise Moutinho before but dropping him today was the right choice, hopefully Neto's injury isn't too bad. Jota should have scored his first chance but did well on the second, should help his confidence. Intelligent play to set up Traore who should score but we were out of sight, could have scored 5 if we wanted.

We were good but Everton were very bad, has to be said. Midfield was weak, defence tepid and torn to shreds time after time particularly towards the end. Might be on the beach but their past three games doesn't bode well for the future - shit performances all around (Pickford is crazily bad now, Joe Hart-esque rise and fall in a third of the time) and the tactics were unclear. Baines was out of position and midfield in a weird shape. I missed the start so didn't see what formation Sky thought they were lining up with but had no clue watching. I couldn't tell what role Davies was meant to play, seemed to be all over whilst bringing nothing, used to think he had good potential but was crap.

Nice win overall, pleasing day! Hopefully Spurs and Arsenal draw.

Davies was playing the Edwards dog/balloon position

You must be talking about some other Traore, because you're absolutely not talking about Adama.

Ismael, maybe? He's a big Hulk of a CB...

I might not be putting across what I mean very well. Is he Hazard, Podence, Willian etc. No he isn’t. Can he turn and run fast, yes. When he turns and beats someone he is beating them on pure acceleration and pace rather than twisty turns and then he has the ability to just brush them off and carry on.

Must have been the a different Traore with great feet in build up to Neto’s goal against West Ham too.

It isn’t that Traore isn’t capable of turning and beating players in tight spaces, he jus doesn’t move into those positions anywhere near enough. He’s definitely improved since he first joined us, but I want to see him receive the ball like that more often because he’s almost impossible to take the ball off of.

Adama can change direction pretty well tbf.

Adama has outstanding close control and can definitely beat players in tight spaces

Some of that might be Nuno though, there was lots of talk last season about trying to get him on the ball earlier, and in our half, so he could run at players. I think that was part of the reason in him playing RWB.

Pretty much anywhere you give him the ball he’s going to hurt the opposition though, obviously makes more sense for that to be closer to the opposition goal.

Well I didn’t want to derail the thread anymore, but ill go again. I was simply trying to make this point, but as per, the one potentially badly written bit is jumped on rather than assessing the point in general. He doesn’t move into those positions (as I said), and then I don’t think he links up as well with the others. Still trying to do it all himself with direct running. Which is effective, but sometimes a little interplay could be more so.

Oh, don't play the victim. You said he doesn't have a low center of gravity which is... I don't even know the right word.

Wrong?

He's undoubtedly better when he's facing the opposition goal than he is with his back to it. If you're the opposition you'd be happy with Adama getting the ball into feet facing the wrong way - we should never play him there because it nullifies him

We want him running at opposing defenders because that's where hes most dangerous, he needs the learn how to do the tight interplay thing a bit better though.

Wrong?

Not playing any victim card. I know what I mean, you don’t, tried explaining but it isn’t helping. I can’t do much more. He succeeds with good feet at pace with power on top.

That gif does not illustrate what I mean. Like I said, I can’t help you.

There are only so many ways to interpret "low center of gravity".

I disagree on the he’s a powerhouse bit though, he beats them with skill initially first, especially in the tighter situations. There are times in transition where he can push it into space past player which is obviously very effective. I think, oddly, his dribbling technical ability is quite underrated from the outside because of his unique speed.

Agree about moving into those positions. I think he is gradually learning tbf, just he favours pulling wide to receive as you say Which I guess is understandable from his point of view

On that note, as tempted as he or the club may be by some of the offers that could come in for him, I really think he'd stunt his growth if he left Nuno's tutelage now.

Imagine him after one more year with Nuno and our coaching staff.

My point was simply:

Wolves are a more fluid team without Traore.

I think this because:

He stays out wide/his movement isn’t as good as the others.
He is very direct and doesn’t have the interplay of the others.
Our players expect him to be direct so all move to the box when he gets it’s rather than working opportunities through interplay.

Didn’t think it was that outrageous, still don’t.

Whether i wrote it badly, misinterpretation, whatever. Now without picking small holes, if you dont agree with the overall tone of my message, our understandings are very different.

I’m sure no one else wants to read the last few posts, but it’s kept me entertained in Merry Hill if nothing else.
