Wolves 3-1 Southampton: Verdict Thread

Was watching that, they were also very positive of the job Wolves were doing under Lage and Clinton Morrison was praising how well Fabio has looked recently.

I like Clinton Morrison. He seems to do far more research than some others who get punditry gigs.
He gets a lot of negative coverage due to how he talks rather than people judging his content.

Another good result/performance today, the team is really developing under Bruno and becoming hard to beat. Good performances all over the pitch today, Sa was excellent again and I like him more and more each time I see him. He deals with most things thrown at him and is very reactive to danger but his quick and accurate distribution is a huge bonus too.

Tote slotted into the defence well and looked comfortable for his debut, Kilman excellent again too. RAN did well again and continues to develop.

Moutinho was calm and assured as always in midfield, I too thought Trincao had one of his better games for us, Podence attempted 4 little back flicks, none of which came off.

We were comfortable and in control at 2-0 but once Ward-Prowse's magnificent free kick went in we were suddenly in squeaky bum territory and were very fortunate when their next effort hit the crossbar, Traore went from villain with an ill composed, blasted effort from a great position to hero with a controlled, calm slot past Forster to restore the 2 goal lead and thus ensure a comfortable rest of injury time.

Fabio Silva was very impressive again when he came on and suddenly seems to be developing into a useful player for us.

As for Michael Salisbury, very poor, particularly in the first half where he gave them everything and us nothing apart from the penalty (after VAR's intervention) and nice to have 2 VARs in our favour for a change and a penalty to boot.

Exciting, eventful game that!

Tote did well, you could tell there were some communication issues with him, which is always going to happen.

Good sub performances, but my favourite moment was Kilman with an absolutely SMASHING tackle with about 15 mins to go, made me make some weird guttural sound!

Entertaining game. Like a lot of games it looked like we might click into top gear, but didn't. Trincao clearly has ability, but needs to cut out some of the flicks and tricks and just take his man on more or lay the ball off, also don't do it in your own half. If he can get on the same page as Podence (another who needs to flick off) and Raul then at some point I think we'll properly open someone up.

Fair play to Gomes, didn't do anything wrong, not as comfortable on the ball as our other centre halves, but kept it simple. Too small a sample to judge whether he'll have a career here, but certainly did himself no harm

Sa continues to make crucial saves, he had his 'moment' but it didn't cost us and did a lot to ensure we didn't concede from one of their 10 corners

Time for Donck to go in the Summer I think, loose with the ball on too many occasions. We need him for the rest of this season, but with a couple of signings 😄 I'd be moving him on

Statement I never thought I'd make. Kilman reminded me of VVD today. The way he stepped in front on their forwards and just bullied them off the ball was reminiscent of him. Completely assured and playing with so much confidence.

Don't think I've seen a better free kick live...some hit. Happy to watch it in a win!

Players at the club who have improved under Bruno - Semedo, RAN, Kilman, Coady, Saiss, Neves, Moutinho (on last season), Fabio. Fair play to him, he and his team have done remarkably well whilst being shafted by Jeff and co

Great game, fair share of nonsense on various levels but really enjoyable. Great atmosphere in the second half. Another shout for Gomes who had a cracking first half right in front of me. Revolutionary kind of debut, bring it on. Hmm…

xG looks really weird 2.3 Vs 0.9

It felt like Soton had some really good chances
I think that although Sa was the busier keeper several saves were expected but I agree it looked better than that for saints. I enjoyed the game and I liked Southampton. They are a decent unit and if they had scored more we could not have complained. Sa v Forster is a no contest win and probably the biggest visible difference between the sides. Sa has been done to death on here but it’s great he keeps performing so well. Another tidy cameo from Fabio. A very good team performance. Two quality signings from being a really good side with some depth on the bench cm for me please

Probably an unpopular decision because he’s a bit of a shit, but every time I see Oriol Romeu, I always think we could use someone like that in our midfield. He’s a better player than he gets credit for. He’s one of those that you always hate coming up against, but I bet if he played for you, you’d love him.

My lad reckoned we were a bit lucky and not very good for large parts of the game...I only saw last 25 but though he was a bit harsh. Glad young Gomez had a decent game and another good cameo for Silva.
My lad bollocked me for saying Sa shouldn't be letting a free kick in from that distance... JWP did hit it well tbf.
Shout out to Traore, after they scored a great goal, hit the bar, he missed an open goal but was mentally strong enough to take on another shot...thank fuck it went in.

Just seen Ralph H moaning about our players rolling around and being over dramatic. Initially I thought twat then I remembered RAN Semedo and Podence all hit the deck at times today very easily. I don’t mind a bit of shit housery, but I can’t stand some of our theatrics. Fabio, who was up there for dramatics last season , seems to have cut a lot of that out.

Moutinho was milking it a bit too.

Fabio seems to be very good at winning free kicks compared to last season, sticking his arse in SEB style and then going down.

We've over reacted to the Brentford game. Since then we've attempted to do what they did at Molinieux and it is at times embarrassing. Semedo's throwing himself to the ground may have contributed to us not getting the obvious foul on RAN later on

Been noticable how much better he is at protecting the ball now, don't think he's really any stronger than last season but at least now positions himself to make sure they have to foul him to get him out the way. I don't think he's ever really shied away from that stuff either to be fair to him, was just a bit too green for adult when he was dropped in the deep end last season.

Could do with a similar awakening from Trincao who seems incredibly naive to the competitive nature of football. I've seen more purpose in the U12s who play in Alfreton Leisure Centre before us on a Thursday night.

Coady now has twice as many goals as each of Neves, Moutinho and Traore (1 each), and is our joint 3rd highest goalscorer on 2 along with Saiss.

That's also 3 wins and a draw from Brighton, Chelsea, Man Utd and Southampton. I'd have hoped for 6 points there, realistically thought 4 given our record at Brighton. to get 10 is outstanding.

Well I have just got back home and I thoroughly enjoyed that. If Max Kilman doesnt make the next England squad Southgate needs his bumps felt. He was absolutely magnificent. Shout out to Toti Gomez. We dont need a centre back looking at that. He was born to the role in the premier league.

The save from Sa in the first half from the header was insane. Awesome. He could do nothing about their goal which to be fair really lit up the game. A truly stunning strike.

Thought that was another excellent cameo from Fabio. Its coming for him, I really believe that.

Adama - how dare you make me stand up in the middle of the North Bank screaming for you to be sold for bobbins and then make me look a complete cock a minute later. Naughty!

I'm getting a bit tired of our shithousery, tbh. I don't know whether Bruno encourages it or just doesn't prevent it, but I believe we're better than that, and if Raul picks up another ban later in the season for his playground antics it could cost us.

That minor niggle apart, there was a lot to enjoy about today. Six goals in two games! Have we turned a corner?

Neves and a fit and firing Neto and we are a proper outfit (as in a really good team) and win that game more comfortably. Donck Isn’t good enough on the ball in the 2 (probably not good enough full stop) and Trincao just isn’t doing enough. Several times in the first half he had the CB isolated 1v1 and it led to nothing. If you can’t going to succeed isolating Southampton defenders 1v1 then when are you going to? Podence moved over to that side and instantly made something happen (albeit a tame shot) and then went back to the left.

That CM is going to be hard to find with the quality of Neves and Moutinho but it’s highly likely neither of them will be here 2 years from now. And we need a third option who isn’t Donck.
