Wolves 3-1 Southampton: Verdict Thread

Great performance and result, especially considering our only world class player is out with covid and we gave a debut to a central defender who has never played a minute for us. Very impressed by Lagesb use of the squad.

Fabio looked good again when he came on, and good to see bruno bringing him on earlier.

RE: shithousery, we have become very good at it. Unfortunately it's the way the game is now, and you're going to lose points over the course of a season if you don't engage in it. So if we want to be challenge for Europa/CL places, its inevitable we will have to be twats.

My lad reckoned we were a bit lucky and not very good for large parts of the game...I only saw last 25 but though he was a bit harsh. Glad young Gomez had a decent game and another good cameo for Silva.
My lad bollocked me for saying Sa shouldn't be letting a free kick in from that distance... JWP did hit it well tbf.
Shout out to Traore, after they scored a great goal, hit the bar, he missed an open goal but was mentally strong enough to take on another shot...thank fuck it went in.
Yep after watching the free kick again on motd, my lad was right.....I was talking bollocks...no saving that

Any idea what happened to Lyanco? Just stopped playing which gave Traore the freedom of the pitch for the goal. Then came back on and finished the game

was on a yellow after the hour mark, possibly didn’t want another for hacking down Traore

Tends to be how debuts work.

Biggest issue was Sa bouncing around a bit and in doing so he motioned slightly to his right as if anticipating JWP trying to go over the wall. Meant he wasn't set to go the other way when JWP cut across it instead.

Bit disappointing on one hand to be beaten from that distance with minimal obstruction to see around but it was hit well so fine margins make big difference. Was interesting someone mentioned the way Sa set the wall at the end against United, putting the biggest players where it inconvenienced Fernandes most, similar approach may have paid off today, a taller player than Moutinho maybe gets a bit on it to change the flight.

Thought the wall could have been better but the main problem was the deviation...Sa started going one way then had to adjust......sometimes it's just a really well hit free kick

They kept changing who was in the wall and how many, obviously didn't want all the tallest players in the wall as it would have left us vulnerable from the ball being crossed in to the box.

It's the power more than the deviation, combined with Sa's gamble, that does it for me. Once he's guessed the wrong side and it's struck that firmly then it's nigh on impossible to get back across.

Not a howler by any means but doesn't take much of a mistake to be punished at this level and JWP is as good as anyone with a dead ball.

Kilman was the other man in the wall, swap them round and it probably does it's job.

He hasn't really "guessed" wrong at first, though. The ball is clearly drifting to Sa's right before it whips over to the left.

I'm not having anyone getting blamed for that one (aside perhaps from whoever gave up the FK and what the foul was). It's not a strike you'd reasonably expect any keeper in the world to save, IMO.

It was Moutinho. Bit of a silly one IIRC.

Well I have just got back home and I thoroughly enjoyed that. If Max Kilman doesnt make the next England squad Southgate needs his bumps felt. He was absolutely magnificent. Shout out to Toti Gomez. We dont need a centre back looking at that. He was born to the role in the premier league.

The save from Sa in the first half from the header was insane. Awesome. He could do nothing about their goal which to be fair really lit up the game. A truly stunning strike.

Thought that was another excellent cameo from Fabio. Its coming for him, I really believe that.

Adama - how dare you make me stand up in the middle of the North Bank screaming for you to be sold for bobbins and then make me look a complete cock a minute later. Naughty!
Can’t remember being that angry and then feeling that embarrassed at my foul mouthed rant. How does he fuck up the easy chance and then score the more difficult?

It was a proper game against an in form team. If we’re selling Neves in the summer I’d love us to get JWP as a replacement.

Moutinho was excellent as was Kilman (thanks Jack for Max Kilimanjaro, properly made me belly laugh) but Sa was my MotM, an inspired performance when we needed him most.

Some of our movement off the ball is excellent and Trincao made some lovely moves and passes but he lacks end product as an inside forward.

Nice to have a bench that actually improves the team, even if this is Traore’s high point in a Wolves shirt.

I just think that we should acknowledge and admire that it was a really great free kick

Out of interest, what was Adama showing on those white gloves ? Camera didn't have the angle.
It said Faith and Believe and a black raised fist with the colors of the Malian flag on the right, Spanish flag on twitter left.

I had this in great detail when Cass got home, almost made up for me missing the game. 😂
I reckon your foul mouthed rant would've eclipsed mine. Cass thought I was going to explode!

I couldn't bring myself to sing his song when he scored, mainly through sheer embarrassment.
